Gord was the kind of guy who greeted you with a smile and always made you feel special. Gord lived a short life but was a kind soul and will live on in memories of others.Rest in peace  Gord .

We knew Gord from Oshawa Yacht Club and my favorite story was the sinking ship he was on. He didn't have a long life but he had a good life. I loved his humor and honesty.

I spent some time with Gord  only a month ago over a drink and had nice conversation if only I knew it would be the last time I see him I would have had so much more to say! He truly was a great guy!! He was a client and also a good friend! We had many heart to hearts or maybe just my heart to his. he was always very positive! He would always say "Penny it is what it is!" "What can you do?" with a chuckle! I can still hear it!! I am going to miss him as well as the baileys he always brought me when I cut his hair which ps was once a year  lol he called it his once a year haircut. The warmer months I often saw him at the pearson pub when I would meet up with the clan for wings after a day of work! I enjoyed you Gordie!! XOXO

I was Gord's team lead when he worked in the non-filers unit at the Ministry but I had known him from previous dealings in Corp Tax. He was very knowledgeable and helped me do my job better because of that. He always spoke his mind, made good suggestions and I enjoyed working with him. We would have lots of conversations about him and his boat. He always said a nice hello to me and never had a bad thing to say about anyone. It is such a shock to hear of Gord's passing. Steve, It is so hard when we lose a son, brother or just a good friend.  Gord was all of these. He always took the time to speak or even just say hi when he passed you.  He was not afraid to voice his opinion or say what was on his mind.  He had his own style and didn't care what anyone else thought.  These are traits that set him above all others.  Gord's passing was way too soon and quick. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time.

We sure created some great memories back in the early days crewing The Bullet (Ulysses) from Port Oshawa – the “lightening storm trip” to The Thousand Islands is etched with me forever.  Gord may you rest in Peace.

Even though I didn't work directly with Gord we did run into him a few years ago at a fundraiser for a common friend with Cancer in Toronto's east end.  Andy was playing guitar at this event and I thought Gord looked familiar from work, I was correct and ever since he smiled and said hello everytime we passed in the atrium in the early mornings into work.  It seemed less then a week when he smiled, waved and said good morning.  I can see by all here that he touched many lives as we too found him to be a decent man. May he be soaring in the heavens with many angels!

Although we didn't know Steve & Doreen  well, we knew Pete from camping days, So sorry for your loss.  Gordie was like family to us.  He was our SANTA for many years at our family Christmas party.  He knew all the kids names as he handed out gifts, always a little joke for the older ones.  All the kids called him " Gordie hotdog " Sailing in Tortola, Virgin Islands, with Jimmy & Dave, he found himself on a sinking boat.  No fear..he saved the day.  Getting his long locks cut off in our backyard, by Penny, just after she finished hair school, and still came back year after year.  We are in shock with this terrible news.  We will miss him dearly. Gordie loved sailing big boats fast.
It was known as the Oshawa Yacth Club Clipper Race . Take the wheel I would say ,he would steer 100 miles through the dark of night. A fast sailboat named "Brass Bullet" A C&C 38 .
Once a hurricane,broken ribs,lighting  would not hold him back ,thats racing he'd say.Yell the word POP'S down the dock,his head would pop out the hatch,the funniest thing i'd ever seen,there he was, ready to sail. we will never forget him .

We didn't know Steve or Doreen, we did know Pete from camping days with Gordie and our family,  but we sure knew Gordie.  He was our SANTA for many years, he knew every kids name as he was handing out gifts.  Our whole family knew him .  All the kids called him Gordie hotdog.  He was our audieo man, at our friends, daughters wedding along with our son, Dave. who was video man, about 16 years ago.  Trips to Tortola, Virgin Islands, with Dave and his dad, ending up on a boat that was sinking.  No fear, Gordie saved the day.  Getting his long locks cut off by Dave's sister, Penny, not long after she became a hairdresser, and still continued to see her long after.  So many wonderful memories, we will treasure always. Dear Steve and family, please accept my deepest condolences. I am very sorry for your loss and deeply saddened to hear of Gord's passing.

I think of the people that pass through our lives.  Some friends, some colleagues, some bosses, and employees.  But usually the distinctions are clear.  With Gord, it didn't matter who you were or where you came from. He treated everyone the same.

With Gord, the expression of “what you see is what you get” was who it was said for.  Not in the way of arrogance, mean spiritedness, or any of that stuff often disguised as just being true to yourself, but because as opinionated as he could be, he was never unkind or cruel to anyone.  Above all, Gord was a kind man and a genuine person.

I first met Gord as an employee, and I could not help but befriend him, as everyone he met just had to.  We became friends, shared laughs and spent times at the the OYC where he taught me how to sail.  Gord, as everyone would agree, was the most unpretentious man you could ever meet. His natural character endeared him to so many.

He was part of a crew we had at work, and I'm sure I'm not alone in remembering the cavalier manner he carried into the office everyday which just added that “let's not all take this to seriously.. attitude” amidst all our efforts to try and appear professional.  Gord just had a way of grounding us all and keeping it real.  

You touched a lot lives, more than you may ever have known.  RIP my dear Gordie.

I went to high school with Gord in the early 80's at O'Neill CVI.  Unfortunately we have lost a few of our alumni from 1979-1984 in the past couple of years, and now we have lost Gord.
