It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Grant Edgar Butt on Tuesday June 16 2026 in his 91st year.
Grant was born to the late Edgar and Gladys Butt and was raised on the family farm in Seagrave. He attended high school in Port Perry and developed the strong work ethic, kindness, and generosity that would define his life.
Grant began his working career at Fittings Limited in Oshawa, where he met his first wife, Marina Harrison Brash. They were married in 1959 and together welcomed two children, daughter Gail Butt and son Rick Butt.
He later joined General Motors in Oshawa, where he worked proudly for 34 years before retiring at the age of 55. Retirement, however, was not a life that suited Grant for long. Always active and eager to stay busy, he went on to drive a school bus for Stock Transportation for several years and later worked as a shuttle bus driver in Whitby, where he enjoyed meeting and helping people every day.
Grant was predeceased by his parents, Edgar and Gladys Butt; his brother, Dorian Butt; his son, Rick Butt; and his wife, Marina Harrison-Butt.
Grant was a devoted father and proud grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Gail Brown and his beloved grandchildren, Corey Davidson and Bronwyn Brown, and his great grand children Henry, Jack, Addyson and Susie who brought him great pride and joy throughout his life; his loving sister, Carol Wilson, and her husband Glenn; and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
For the past 20 years, Grant shared his life with his beloved partner, Joan Lintner. Together they enjoyed many happy years filled with travel, dances, bus trips, and countless adventures. Joan's energy, enthusiasm, and love brought great joy to Grant's life. He adored her and treasured their time together. When Joan moved into long-term care, Grant faithfully visited her every day for nearly three years. As his own health began to decline, those visits became more difficult, and he deeply missed the companionship and love they had shared.
Grant also leaves behind Joan's family, whom he considered his own: Kimberley Gallogley and her husband Dan, Kevin Lintner and his wife Terri, Scott Lintner and his wife Lana, and their children and grandchildren whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Grant will be remembered as a happy, loving, and generous man who was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need and never hesitated to offer his time, support, or friendship. His kindness touched many lives, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Oshawa Funeral Home on Monday, June 22 2026, located at 847 King Street West, Oshawa, Ontario from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service in the chapel from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. A light luncheon will follow the service.
Internment will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday June 23 2026 at Groveside Cemetery located at 5155 Baldwin St South, Whitby, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers the family are kindly asking for donations to the Canadian Cancer Society
Though he is no longer with us, Grant's legacy of kindness, hard work, and unconditional generosity will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
