Greg was born in North Bay and grew up alongside many lifelong childhood friends, where he found a strong passion for hockey and community early on in life. He moved to Bowmanville in 2002, where he accepted a position with the Durham Regional Police Service and there he had an accomplished career for 23 years. Greg always supported his community, and always made an effort to be involved in every aspect of his children’s lives, including his role as a proud trainer for the Clarington Toros for many years.
The most important thing in life to Greg was and will always be his family. He was the most devoted and loving husband to Laurie and the world’s greatest father to his children, Declan and Danica. Forever cherished son to his parent’s Greg Sr. and Betty O’Connor and a dedicated brother to Kris/Reg (partner Tasha) and Casey. He will be lovingly remembered as a remarkable son-in-law to John and Dorothy Kenerknecht and the most supportive brother-in-law to John, Ranny, Kevin and Sarah. Greg will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his nieces Chloe, Layla and Georgia and nephew Sam. He will continue to be mourned by his entire extended family, many friends including his entire neighbourhood, community, loved ones in North Bay and his many extraordinarily loyal colleagues.
Greg will fondly be remembered for his love of the Washington Capitals, kayak fishing, boating, campfires at the cottage and cherished time spent with family, but mostly for his unwavering willingness to always help anyone in need. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and adored him. We lost a true hero and the world will forever be missing his presence, laughter and endless love he had for everyone in his life. He protected and saved countless lives and deeply fulfilled the lives of everyone around him. The love and support from the entire community, including DRPS has made all the difference to the family as we continue to learn how to live without Our Hero.
A public visitation will be held at the Oshawa Funeral Home, 847 King Street West, on Thursday, January 23rd, from 4-8 p.m. A celebration of Greg’s life will take place on Friday, January 24th, 2025 at 1:00 o’clock at Embassy Church, 416 Taunton Road West, Oshawa, Ontario.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to his children’s Education Fund in memory of Greg’s legacy at https://gofund.me/257865fc
