It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Helen McGhee Murphy with family by her side on March 26th, 2016 at Lakeridge Hospital, Oshawa. Beloved spouse of Douglas George Murphy and loving mother of Dean and Connie. A very proud Nana to her cherished granddaughter Rachel. Predeceased by her parents George McIlvanney and Helen (McGhee), her sisters Margaret (Milligan), Mary (Murchie) Annie (McAvoy), her brothers George, Neal (Marian) and Hugh (Marian). Fondly remembered by her extended Murphy family, their husbands, wives and children, and her much loved nieces and nephews in Scotland and Australia. As a young girl Helen immigrated to Canada from Kilmarnock, Scotland in 1957. She loved this country but never forgot her home town, family and friends in Kilmarnock whom she visited on numerous occasions. A kind and caring wife, a loving Mother and Nana. A loyal and compassionate friend to many who lived a long and happy life. Her big heart lives on in Connie who was always by her side. Helen was one of the original volunteers at St Vincent’s Kitchen. She loved life, elderly people and animals. Of late she was very fond of her granddaughter’s little kitten “Monkey”. A special heartfelt thank you goes out to The Kidney Clinic for their care and compassion. Also to Carole at Lovell Drugs who was always so caring. It meant a lot to Helen. Visitation will be held at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King St. West Oshawa (King and Thornton) (905)721-1234 on Friday April 1st from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. Funeral Mass will be held at ST. GREGORY THE GREAT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 194 Simcoe St. N., Oshawa on Saturday, April 2nd at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to the Kidney Dialysis Unit of Lakeridge Hospital.
