With sorrow we announce the passing of our father Herbert Markham on Friday, August 2nd, 2013 in his 85th year. He is survived by his wife, Victoria, Daughters Eileen (Doug), Patricia (Phil) and his son John (Laura), his grandchildren, Alexandra and Mark Foster, Joshua, Aaron, Chelsea, Jordan Battell, and Matthew Markham, as well as ex-son-in-law, Martin, and his two nieces, Lynda Side (Dan), and Susan Bouchard (Bob). He is predeceased by his parents, Herb and Hilda Markham, and sisters Dorothy Markham and Kay Owen (Pete). Herb was born and raised in Hamilton. For many years he ran, along with his brother-in-law, Pete Owen, Markham’s Cleaners on James Street South and Augusta. After selling the store in 1974, Herb worked for Revenue Canada until his retirement in the late 1980’s. Dad had a great love of music and was proficient at the piano, however due to illness in the last several years was unable to continue. Although he did not have a great deal of formal education, dad loved to read and would devour many books in a week, a special favourite being British history. For the past few months dad lived in Whitby to be nearer his daughter, Eileen. To those who knew him, Herb was a gentle, quiet soul and he will be greatly missed. Thanks to the lovely staff at Lakeridge Health – Oshawa especially Lori-Ann, Riley and Vanessa. Special thanks to Jennifer Sousa and Lynne McLaren of Lynde Creek Manor Whitby. You were both angels of mercy when we needed it most. A Memorial Mass was held at HOLY FAMILY CATHOLIC CHURCH, Whitby on Tuesday, August 6th. Arrangements entrusted to the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West, Oshawa (905-721-1234). Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
