Jacqueline Anne Loisel (née Gagnon) died October 1st in the Palliative Care Unit at Lakeridge Health Oshawa at the age of 88.
Born in 1938 in Prescott, Ontario, to Elise and Maurice Gagnon, Jackie would move many times in her life.
In 1947, Jackie, her parents, and her brothers Gilles and Guy moved to Saint-Sauveur, Quebec, where her father had a garage and her mother was a teacher.
Jackie enjoyed telling the story of playing “smash up derby” as children by driving cars with her brothers on the back lot of their property.
In 1950, when Jackie was in sixth grade, she met Yvon Loisel, her neighbour and the love of her life.
She moved to Toronto in her early 20’s to work, and to live with her roommate Yvette. She would marry Yvon in Lachute, Quebec in 1962, and have 3 children, Ivan D (Maggie), Renee (Thomas) and Lee (Bev). The family lived in Toronto, moved to Montreal, and then to Edmonton, Alberta until 1986.
Jackie worked as a Lab receptionist at Chem-Ex Labs. Eventually, Jackie and Yvon would move to Amherstview, Ontario and settle there for the next 30 years.
She volunteered many hours of her time to helping seniors at the Helen Henderson Retirement Home in Amherstview.
She was also an excellent cook who enjoyed cooking delicious meals for family and friends alike. In June 2024, Yvon and Jackie moved to Courtice, Ontario to be closer to their children. Yvon passed in July of that year.
Jackie is remembered for her friendly and outgoing personality, and especially enjoyed the moniker “Crazy Grandma”.
Pre-deceased by her son Ivan D, her husband Yvon, and her brother Guy, she is survived by her brother Gilles, her children Renee (Thomas), and Lee (Bev), and her grandchildren Curtis (Gillian), Evan, Teaghan, Liam, and Georgie.
A private Celebration of Life for family will take place in December.
