In his usual manner, John left us quietly and suddenly. Born in Temiscaming, Quebec to John and Maria Belak (Slovakia). A special brother for Nicholas, big brother for Mary. Predeceased by his parents, wife Joyce, daughter Veronica and sister-in-law Catherine. A proud father to Peter, Stephen and Veronica. He supported their academic and many extra-curricular pursuits. An endeared uncle to John Paul. A deep abiding faith sustained him through challenges and tragedies. Stoic and strong in an 8 year battle with Rectal Cancer. Lifelong friendships endured. Comfort and support always from the Krupicas, Pickerings, Davisons, Dewans, Janisses, Michinskys, , Chengs, Hungs, Mrs. Adams and Father Costello. The family’s move to Oshawa enriched by friendships with Veronica’s soccer teams, St. Mary’s Church, Co-workers at Ontario Ministry and the Knights of Columbus. John admonished us to “sluchaj” (listen), kindness, loyalty and generosity to his church, family and friends were his legacy. His joy at reunion with his loved ones must diminish our sadness. Acknowledgement to the outstanding care and support on his arduous journey to Dr. Fernando Spencer, Staff at Mt. Sinai, Princess Margaret, Lakeridge Dialysis Unit, Durham Community Care and friends. Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Wednesday, October 14th from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. Parish prayers will be held in the Chapel on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at ST. MARY OF THE PEOPLE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH (570 Marion Avenue, Oshawa) on Thursday, October 15th at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations to Durham Mental Health Association would be appreciated.
