December 20, 1915 – January 25, 2016
After a life well-lived, passed away at home in the embrace of his family in his 101st year on the evening of January 25th with a full moon shining in the sky. He was the epitome of an adoring husband, basking in a long and happy marriage with his wife Angela for 77 years. Proud father of Gary (Barb) and Angie. Cherished Grandad to Jack (Amanda), Derek (Karen), Brent (Leslie), Jesse (Amy) and Lance (Ashleen). Adoring Great-Grandad to Wade, Sarah, Katelyn, Jacob, Evan and Brady. Through his long life, he taught us lessons of love for family, hard work and determination that will live on. He was a proud 43-year employee of General Motors and enjoyed a long and happy retirement, revelling in the company of his family, lovingly tending to his gardens (his “heaven on earth”), savouring the outdoors and travelling to Europe to visit family and friends over 40 times. We will miss his kind heartedness and his stories of coming to Canada as a 14-year old in 1929 and building a successful life. As he said on his 100th Birthday celebration looking back at his life, “everything was rosy". A special thank you to all the health care professionals who supported him. According to his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no funeral. Arrangements entrusted to OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
