Passed away at Lakeridge Health Oshawa after a brief illness on Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011 at the age of 99. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Beatrice (Wakil) Bolahood; his son, Wayne Bolahood and his wife Cathy; his daughter, Darlene Bolahood and her partner Charles Sylge; his daughter, Mary Jo Morrison and her husband Robert; his son Joseph Bolahood II and his wife Carolyn. Lovingly remembered by his 15 grandchildren, Jessica, Leila (Kevin), Paige and Barry Bolahood; Serena, Tatiana, Jasmine (Bryce) and Gabriel Lazdins; Claire, Caitlin and Cole Morrison; Joseph III, Lucas, Jamila and Patrick Bolahood. Born in Toronto, he was a lifelong resident of Oshawa. Joe started working for Col. Sam McLaughlin at age 12, eventually becoming his chauffeur. It wasn’t unusual for Col. Sam to have Joe sit in the back seat while Col. Sam took a turn at the wheel. Joe married Beatrice on February 9th, 1952 and after running a pool hall and toy store, he opened what was to become an Oshawa landmark – Bolahood’s Sportshaven. Joe outfitted most of the Oshawa Generals players for their equipment for many years. No one could fit a pair of skates like Joe! His passions included golf, curling, hunting and the odd poker game! The more people around, the happier he was. While Joe loved being around people, it was his family that brought him the greatest delight. Joe was a joker and in spite of his constant teasing, ribbing and general tormenting, he was an adored and admired Jido. Each of his children and grandchildren were devoted to him. A visitation and reception only, will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Monday, November 28th from 2 – 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakeridge Health Oshawa – Critical Care Unit.
