Dad was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed many fishing trips with family and friends. He loved all sports and was active in baseball and hockey as a player and then later as a referee and umpire. He was an avid Leaf fan and was disappointed that the Stanley Cup continued to elude them.
He was deeply devoted to his family and made sure each of us knew how proud he was. In many ways, he was our greatest cheerleader. His happiest moments came from seeing his children, their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren pursuing what they loved and doing well. While he had a special fondness for hockey and could often be found at the rink, quietly watching from his usual spot by the net, his pride and interest extended to all his grandchildren and their individual passions.
Whether or not he was able to be there in person, each of his grandchildren knew they were always in his thoughts. He took genuine joy in their accomplishments, followed their lives with interest, and loved them all deeply, taking pride in the unique people each of them became.
Dad remained active until his passing and insisted on shovelling snow, cutting his own grass, and tending to his garden and would not listen to anyone tell him otherwise.
He was a character, had quite the sense of humour and was unapologetically himself. We hope our Mom is ready to resume keeping him in line!
He truly felt he lived a great life. Rest in peace Dad. We will miss you.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks for the exceptional care he received at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, in particular his nurses Leslie and Dawn in the Intensive Care Unit for their kindness and compassion.
Photo credit goes to Isla Howe, his 4 year old great granddaughter, who took this picture two weeks ago. He was enjoying his family and a nice glass of Scotch. It captured him perfectly.
The family is holding a private ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Lakeridge Health would be greatly appreciated.
