It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved mother Leona Irene McGowan (nee Brown) in her 88th year on Friday, April 29, 2022 surrounded by family at Harmony Hills Retirement Community, Oshawa, Ontario. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Leona had a wonderful childhood in Leslieville where she met her future husband James and then moved to Scarborough where she resided for over 60 years.
Predeceased by husband James Ellis, and sister Helen Fleming (nee Brown). Loving mother of James Robert, mother-in-law to Terry-Leah, grandmother to Tyler and Brett, sister to Robert Brown, aunt to Darlene Fleming and many other nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Through the years Leona graciously volunteered her time to many groups and organizations including the Toronto Firefighters Club, Toronto and Area Council of Women and most recently Harmony Hills Retirement Home Committee. A private Memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
