Leonard was a proud union member of local 740 for over 50 years. Leonard was a pipefitter by trade, his work required him to travel all over Canada for several years, numerous times relocating his family. He was a hard-working man, who provided an excellent life for his family.
After retirement Leonard spent most of his time building wooden boats and cabins in his workshop. He was well known for his abilities to make the most detailed pieces; many of us have the privilege of having models that he built for us.
In September 2020 Leonard had a stroke that changed his day to day living. He spent 2 weeks in Oshawa hospital, 7 months in Whitby rehabilitation center, a year and a half at Sunny Crest, before he settled at Village of Taunton Mills. After his stroke he was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer’s. We faced many challenges over these 6 years, most being the last year and a half, since he lost his beloved Maude.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Village of Taunton Mills for the care he received.
Leonard will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He had a special gift of always putting a smile on anyone’s face; he could catch anyone’s attention with his infectious whistle.
Visitation will be held at Oshawa Funeral Home located at 847 King St West, Oshawa, Ontario on Thursday July 9 , 2026, from 5pm to 7pm.
