GILCHRIST, Lisa Amy Mary (née Bertolo) (November 10, 1964 ~ June 19, 2020) After a courageous battle, Lisa passed away peacefully in the arms of her family. Beloved and (“ best looking”) daughter of Rino and Caterina Bertolo. Cherished wife of Dr. Timothy Gilchrist for 29 years. Loving mother of (and lovingly cared for by) Robert, Catherine, and Alexander. Lisa will be greatly missed and never forgotten by her sisters Laura Bertolo (Greg Bell) and Monica Bertolo (Tim Sallows) and her children Cooper, Hayden and Camille. She will be fondly remembered by the extended Bertolo and Gilchrist families. Lisa was operating a successful interior design business when she received her devastating diagnosis in 2018. In spite of being in constant pain, she never gave up the battle, while maintaining her trademark high energy and “joie de vivre”. All who knew Lisa recognized she was an “energizer bunny”, always doing something and never being able to sit still. She was the definition of a “mama bear” and the bright light in her family. A special thank you to the caregivers and friends who helped and visited Lisa during her journey. Visitation will be held at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Thursday, June 25th from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. (Please note Covid-19 restrictions in effect). Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST CATHOLIC CHURCH (903 Giffard Street, Whitby) on Friday, June 26th at 10:30 a.m. Cremation to follow. Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be no reception following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to would be greatly appreciated. Lisa left us too soon; she leaves behind a huge vacuum. The family will never be the same again. Online condolences may be made at

Dear Rino and Cathy Bertolo and the Gilchrist Family, We cannot believe Lisa has passed away. We are so very sorry for your great loss. We could not be at the visitation or Mass as we learned of her passing one hour ago. Our deepest condolences, prayers and thoughts are with your families.
As a child on Fairlawn Street, we remember the wonderful times our children had together either at your home Cathy or at ours. The laughter over the various games, Communion Parties and birthday parties, we remember. Lisa was the leader in many of the games the children played. Our children and their friends, filled our homes with laugher, love and sometimes tears. There were never dull moments. We are greatly sorry for your loss of this amazing young lady. God be with you all.

My sincerest condolences to Tim, Katherine, Robert and Alex, to Rino and Cathy, the entire family and to my best friend whose heart is absolutely broken.
I’ll miss you Lisa, our time was far too short. Gratefully, it has left me with countless fond memories of good times we shared. Whenever I think of you, all I see is you laughing and smiling, that is the Lisa I knew and the memory that will live forever in my heart. That and when I would catch that twinkle in your eye followed by that mischievous smirk when… you know. 😊 I’ll never forget the first time we met, you warmly greeted me and made me feel at ease. That warmth and “belonging” feeling only became stronger as we grew to know each other and you welcomed me into your family. There was a special bond I felt with you that I will always cherish. I’m so thankful to have known you and to have shared as many good times as we did. And don’t worry, a promise is a promise. I will sadly miss you, but will always carry a piece of you in my heart until we meet again and the good times resume. RIP... I love you. Greg xoxox

I had the privilege of working with Lisa when I was a teenager at Fairweather in the 80’s. Lisa came in with such a presence about her that was captivating. Even way back then while just dating the man that she went on to marry, she was confident and and one of the most Beautiful women I have ever met. I am truly saddened to hear of Lisa’s passing. I am not surprised in the least that she was a loving wife and mother. Fierce and Feisty. I am very sorry for your loss.
