Lorraine Mary Aylward

Lorraine Aylward, 88, passed away in the Critical Care Unit at Lakeridge Health Oshawa following unforeseen respiratory complications on November 7, 2022. She was cremated on Remembrance Day, November 11, 2022. Lorraine was born on September 29, 1934 to George and Annie Jones (Young) in Bras d’Or, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Lorraine (aka Nan) was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who provided comfort and solace while asking little in return. Anyone who knew Lorraine was touched by her kindness, humor, fashion sense and mild temperament. She was always a source of positivity. She is survived by her loving family: her children, Holly, Mike (Cheryl) and Darci (Mohammad); her grandchildren Sam (Maegan), Mady (Kyle) and Blake (Kaylin), her youngest grandchild, Benjamin; and, her great granddaughter, Scarlett. Lorraine will be fondly remembered by her sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews of the extended Aylward and Jones families.

In lieu of a traditional memorial service, Lorraine requested a private ceremony where she will be laid to rest with her late beloved husband of 50 years, Michael F. Aylward of the Cape Breton Highlanders, at the National Military Cemetery in Ottawa.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you celebrate sweet Lorraine’s life in your own way. Should you desire, memorial contributions may be made to any charity of your choice. Raising a glass in her memory would be quite appropriate too.
