Mr. Finn

You were the best teacher at Ajax High School. I never really liked history, but when I took your 10th-grade class, you made the course enjoyable. I will miss those days in Civics and Careers when you made us do tasks on Global Citizen, in which I would try to get the most points in your whole teaching career. I will miss your stories about your "sexy legs" and your advice on choosing what post-secondary institution we should attend. Furthermore, I'll never forget the "We Didn't Start The Fire" project you gave us; in my 4 years of high school, it was my most favourite assignment.

I hope you rest easy, since that's what a wonderful man like you deserves.

See you in the next life, Mr. Finn...

Mr. Finn always had a great story to tell. He will be greatly missed by his colleagues and the students at Ajax High School. Many students I have met outside of school have gone out their way to tell me that Mr. Finn was by far their favourite teacher. We often attended his Murder Mystery events, which contributed greatly to the school. I remember being in a Google Meet with Mr. Finn during the pandemic, and he talked us through his Toronto Walk through photos and stories, simply to keep his colleagues entertained. He will be remembered for his school trips and his dedication to education. He touched the lives of many students over the years. His stories will live on.

Merci Mr. Finn, for always being such a kind and welcoming colleague. Sending big hugs to the family during this difficult time.

Mme L. Allard

I am so deeply sad to hear this awful news.

Mr Finn was my fifth grade teacher at Yesodei Hatorah in Toronto during the 1991 to 1992 school year, and I remember him vividly to this day, more than almost any other teacher I ever had. I was a mischievous child throughout elementary school, and patience was not something many teachers had for me. Mr Finn was different.

He was incredibly warm, kind, and endlessly patient. Instead of pushing me away or giving up on me, he would come over after class and gently ask what he could do to help make my day better tomorrow. He did not just teach, he cared. He treated me like a person, and in many ways, like a friend. That meant more to me than I understood at the time.

He had a profound impact on my life and helped shape the person I became. I still remember him speaking to me about his wife’s career at 21st Century and explaining what she did. Today, more than twenty years after graduating, my own career has been in real estate. That memory has stayed with me all these years.

I regret that I never reached out to him later in life to thank him personally. I wish I had told him what a difference he made. While I cannot do that now, I wanted his family to know what an honorable, caring, and impactful man he was. I feel truly blessed to have had him in my life, even if only for one school year.

May his memory always be a blessing.

I was a student in Mr. Finn’s Grade 10 Civics and Careers class, and I graduated with the Class of 2025.

He was one of the best teachers I ever had and such a chill person. His classroom always felt calm and welcoming, and he had a way of explaining things that actually made sense. It never felt like a typical class. It felt like real conversations that made you think.

I remember how he would check in with us as people, not just students. That kindness made his class feel safe and memorable, and it is something that has stayed with me long after high school.

I miss being in his class, and I will always remember him as one of my best teachers. He truly made a difference in my life and in the lives of so many students.

Thank you, Mr. Finn, for everything. Fly high 🕊️🕯️

Hi there, my name is John (Finn was one of few people I allowed to call me Johnny). I was an old student of Mr Finn’s. I had the pleasure of joining him for 4 years of murder mystery, and had the opportunity to accompany him on 3 American history trips.

While he was a teacher, I believe above all else he was a phenomenal mentor. He strove to foster a sense of curiosity, creativity, and community amongst the many students he had over the years.

Having spent so much time with him I believe helped to instill in me a need to make connections with others, no matter where they came from or what kinds of people they were. He wanted people to have the ability to shine no matter what.

Funnily enough I actually met another student of his at my job, several years later and we had the opportunity to bond over the man who had impacted our lives so positively. I believe his legacy, and love for his work, will always shine through in the people who had the chance to meet him.

He will be dearly missed, and his impact will always live on.

I was fortunate to know and teach alongside Mr. Finn for many years at Ajax High School. I taught History in the French immersion program, which allowed me to have many conversations with Mr. Finn, where he would answer any of the questions I may have (and more 😊). My daughters and I attended many of the Murder Mysteries; it was wonderful to see students in a different environment, impersonating unique characters. He gave me a complete copy of his Toronto Walk, which my family and I actually did 2 summers ago: it was a full day experience! His spelling Bee contests, his coaching experience and his countless stories will be missed. I know he touched the lives of many students through the years: his legacy will live on.

My deepest sympathy to your family and friends.

I never had Mr. Finn as my teacher, but that never stopped me from saying hi and visiting his classroom. I don't remember how I first met him, but I remember that no matter my mood, the simple routine of saying hi was so important to me. When I'd have nobody to eat lunch with, I was always welcomed to eat with him. It wasn't a fake or performative offer, he would happily invite anyone into his space without a second thought. If Mr. Finn told you something, you didn't have to think twice about if he actually meant it. This truly shaped me as a person, because I knew that even if I felt alone, I wasn't. We would talk about music or theatre mostly, and I'd even get to hear the most captivating stories from him. I have always aspired to be like Mr. Finn in this sense, because being shown kindness and being given a place to go with no judgment was so important to me. To know that someone is in your corner, and to have someone in your life that sees you is something that helped me become who I am today. I can confidently say that I would not be half the person that I am if it weren't for our discussions.
I miss you and our conversations, and I wish I could speak with you one last time.

Mr. Finn was my history teacher throughout my final years of high school. Every time I'd see him, he'd have a smile on his face, always telling a new story about his life. His murder mysteries and spelling bees made me excited to attend class, and although I graduated 3 years ago and have experienced many other professors, he was by far the most passionate, and without a doubt, the best teacher I have ever had.

Not only did he teach me academically, but he was a symbol of what it meant to be a genuinely good person. He was full of kindness and joy, with true care for those around him. Last April, I saw him at the train station, and although it was a brief conversation, we spoke as if no time had passed. He made everyone feel significant, and I hope he knew his own significance to us all. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and students impacted by this loss.

Mr. Finn was a remarkable human. He supported so many students on an individual level. His words still resonate with me to this day. He was a talented, skillful educator with a heart as big as his mind. Every year he made an immeasurable impact and he showed up. He’s left the world too soon, but he will not soon be forgotten. Thank you Mr. Finn, for sharing lessons that followed us beyond the classroom. You were one of the good ones.

Morris was our friend at Eastern Commerce High School. We hadn't seen Morris since about 1988 when both of our first born sons were 1 years old.

Out of the blue, 2 weeks ago, Morris reached out to Ted enquiring about us and our families. They were planning on getting together with some of their male friends from high school. We fondly remembered those times together and Ted was looking forward to reconnecting but fate stepped in.

It is truly heartwarming to see how loved Morris was and how many people he touched. What a well lived life.

To Morris' family, friends, colleagues and students we send our deepest condolences.

We will have that reunion one day. Rest in peace friend.

I had the privilege of taking his class in grade 10 history, he was one of those teachers that only wanted you to better yourself, I didn’t like going to school but I loved going to his class , when I got my credit he told me that he was proud of me, I never forgot that

Maurice,

In the short time we worked together at Ajax you became a mentor to me. You were an early reference for me as I began my journey as a teacher. I'll remember our conversations about history and our mutual love of music and concerts. I wish I had the opportunity to spend more time to learn and absorb your knowledge. Your legacy lives on in the students and colleagues you mentored along the way.

"For the tree of life is growing
Where the spirit never dies
And the bright light of salvation
Up in dark and empty skies
When the cities are on fire
With the burning flesh of men
Just remember that death is not the end"

I had the genuine pleasure of being taught by Mr. Finn from grade 10-grade 12, in 2016-2018. He was my favourite teacher in high school, I’m sure many others feel the same sort of way about him, because he really was a wonderful person to be around, and learn from. He is part of why I enjoy history. I remember so much from his classes, I still have many of the notes written from them, and mementos like a paper airplane that I flew in class, during a paper airplane competition where we had to make our own Avro Arrow. I was lucky to be able to get my top 100 assignment back from him and, I remember the amount of research I put in to it because I wanted to impress him, I genuinely looked up to him and his knowledge. He was true gift to the earth, to Ajax High. You helped make school fun Mr. Finn, for many people. Thank You for everything.

I graduated from Ajax High School 17 years ago, and Mr. Finn was my favorite teacher. I had the pleasure of going on school trips to both Vimy Ridge and Washington with him. He had such a gift of encouraging his students to want to learn more. To this day I am an avid history buff, and I have Mr. Finn to thank. I’ll always remember him as being everything that a teacher should be.

I wish I could be there on February 4, to celebrate the life of Maurice Finn- a fine gentleman and an incredible, devoted parent. Although I am out of country, please know that I am with you in spirit and holding you close in my heart.
I know there will be an incredible amount of students that I will miss seeing on that day, paying their respects to Mr. Finn. May they find comfort in the memories he helped shape and the lessons he shared.

I send my sincere condolences to the family.
With sympathy

Mr. Finn was truly a teacher like no other. He had this amazing ability to turn lessons and stories into relatable and realistic experiences, even with the hardest of topics Mr. Finn still had every students' attention and interest. Mr. Finn was a rarity and Ajax High School was incredibly lucky to have been guided and educated by him. My condolences go out to his family and all those who knew our favourite American History teacher :)

He will be deeply missed with gratitude and love.

Mr. Finn was such an amazing teacher with an amazing passion for history. I’ll always remember his personal stories that he shared with the class and how he introduced himself to all of us by stating “he had the world’s best legs”. He never failed to make the class smile and was a positive example for all. He will be missed by all his students myself included.

My thought, prayers and love goes out to everyone whos lives were touched and changed by Mr Finn, Family, Friends, Colleagues and Students my thoughts are with you❤️‍🩹

Mr. Finn was more than a history teacher. He was an active arts advocate, an avid consumer of the arts, and a true history buff whose passion made learning feel alive. He was one of the only teachers whose class I genuinely took notes in because every story he told mattered and stayed with you.

When I was being bullied, he let me eat lunch with him, offering kindness and safety without ever making it feel like pity. That simple act meant more than he probably ever knew. Even after I transferred schools, he showed up for me by coming to see my new high school’s musical in Grade 12, something I will always hold close to my heart.

Mr. Finn helped convince me to follow my dreams and pursue drama at university. He believed in me before I fully believed in myself. He was an incredible teacher, mentor, and human being, full of the coolest stories and genuine care for his students. I hope he knew the lasting impact his kindness, encouragement, and love have had on this world. His legacy lives on in every student he supported, inspired, and truly saw.

My heartfelt condolences for this devastating loss.

I had the pleasure of having Mr. Finn as a teacher for two years in high school, as well as going on a Washington and New York trip with him, and performing in two murder mysteries. As a teacher now myself, I can truly say he shaped the way I conduct myself and teach. He had the most calm demeanour, but his stories always held so much passion. He was so captivating to listen to.

From the time he knew I wanted to be a teacher he walked me through every step of the process, and made sure I felt confident in my plan leaving high school. Anytime I returned to visit or volunteer, he had an open door and a big smile waiting. It always felt like returning home when visiting his classroom.

He was a deeply loved and cherished teacher, and a wonderful man. Sending thoughts and sympathies to all who had the privilege to know such a kind soul.

So sorry for your lost many of great times together when we worked at polyresin rest in peace my friend. Clayton aylward

Sending my sincere condolences to Maurice Finn's family during this difficult time. Mr. Finn was a treasured coleague, friend and mentor throughout my years at Ajax High School. Some of my fondest memories are of our long talks before and after school- he was a wonderful listener and always offered thoughtful, meaning ful advice.
I will forever remember our trips to the States and the way he made History come alive.
Our students loved your father because he truly took the time to hear their stories, and he genuinely cared about their well-being-they felt that.
My you find comfort in knowing how deeply he was loved and the many lives he touched.
Rest in peace my friend.

Mr. Finn was one of those teachers who changed lives, mine included. When I started high school I was desperately shy, with a secret love for performing. It took an embarrassing amount of courage for me to show up to my first Murder Mystery rehearsal but Mr. Finn welcomed and encouraged me. I performed in every Murder Mystery from 2010-2012. With his unwavering belief in me at my back, I went on to pursue acting post high school and today I'm a working actor and comedian. I know for a fact that wouldn't be the case without him. I'm heartbroken at this loss and I hope he knows how profoundly thankful I am for knowing him. Thankful for his support, his encouragement, his knowledge, his humour, and his kindness.
My deepest condolences to his family, I'm sending you all love during this difficult time.

Mr. Finn was a dominating memory from my high school years at AHS. He was such a good teacher; patient, kind, funny and honest. I’m lucky I was able to go to Washington DC on a school trip and see his passion for history first hand. Mr. Finn, you will be missed greatly. Rest in Peace.

Mr. Finn was my Grade 10 Canadian History and Grade 11 American History teacher, and he was truly one of the most exceptional educators I had the privilege of learning from. He brightened every day with his kind smile, engaging presence, and captivating stories. His genuine love of history and dedication to his students were evident in everything he did. During the pandemic, he led our class on a virtual walking tour of downtown Toronto, sharing stories, historical insights, and fascinating facts about the city’s many districts. That experience remains one of my most cherished high school memories, and I still think of Mr. Finn whenever I walk through downtown and recall his enthusiasm and joy for teaching. He will be remembered with great fondness and will be deeply missed. My heartfelt thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.

Hello. My name is Gull Murtaza and I was Mr.Finn's student in grde 11. He taught us history, I always remember him smiling and making the class even more fun to be in. I don't ever remember a day where he was not smiling. He was so kind and full of energy. He always helped me throughout the semester anytime I needed his help. One more thing I remember is he always gave me a high five whenever he saw me walking through the hallways of Ajax High. Mr.Finn you will be missed and you will always be remembered as the most amazing teacher ❤️
My heartfelt condolences to your family. May your soul rest in peace ❤️

Mr. Finn was an incredible man. I had him as a history teacher for a year in high school and he was a passionate and fiery figure that always kept his students enticed. I am happy to know that he was a happy man and very fulfilled in his life. He seemed genuinely happy with his students every day and it radiated through his teachings.

May he rest in peace and I give my full support and condolences to his family. Thank you for touching the hearts of so many students and people in this world Mr. Finn, I will never forget you! 🙏❤️

Mr. Finn was truly one of the best teachers i’ve ever had, his civics and careers class was one of the only classes I ever took notes in because it was such an interesting class. Even though I only knew him for less than a year he was genuinely my favourite teacher i’ve had, I wish so many condolences to the family and hope he rests in peace 🤍

Mr. Finn was an outstanding teacher who genuinely cared for his students. I was so excited when I found out I had him as a teacher. His teaching style and personality were truly special, and he always knew how to make the classroom feel welcoming—he even joked about retirement often. During the 2019–2020 school year, especially throughout COVID, he was incredibly understanding and always made sure we were doing well both mentally and physically. I will always remember him as an amazing teacher and an even better human being. Thank you, Mr. Finn, for all of your hard work and dedication. To Family: So sorry for your loss.

Mr. Finn was such a well loved man at Ajax High, everyone and anyone knew how much he loved teaching students history and all of the stories he’s experienced in his life. Mr. Finn I hope in the next life you’re telling people all of the stories you once shared with all of us. May you rest in peace 🩷

Maurice, you left us too soon my friend. I will keep our memories of you when we all reunited as former classmates of Eastern High School of Commerce to hold our own reunions at different classmates homes. Sadly, we failed to keep these reunions going as our lives became busier. My condolences go out to your family and especially to another classmate, Chiyuki, with whom you shared the rest of your life with as a partner. May peace be with you and until we all see each other again at our eventual reunions, take care my friend.

Sheila Traiches-de Melo

I will always remember Maurice for his passion with American history, murder-mystery, the re-introduction of the Ajax House-system and most exemplary, his support for student achievement and experiences. His annual trips to Washington and AP course generated true enthusiasm and motivation to make learning come alive. He was a leader in the CWS Dept and mentored many a new staff. I will always remember our chats of the most recent concerts that he attended on the weekend. He was so proud of his family and we spoke often about Ryan when I indicated I knew him from PHS. His legacy will be forever remembered fondly.
With sincere condolences,
Phil Matsushita and Diane Cary

As a former student of Ajax High School, Mr. Finn was an exceptional teacher and a phenomenal person. The life stories he shared in every history class have encouraged myself and others to live to our greatest potential. He has continuously touched the hearts of everyone he has ever encountered, and I will forever be grateful to have had the privilege to have met him. Mr. Finn has lived a thrilling, glorious life, and will continue to prosper in the next one.

Many of my greatest memories from highschool were sparked in Mr Finn’s classroom, there was never a moment where he was not welcoming, he was and will always be one in a million.

He has influenced hundreds of students lives, never making them feel like less, and always being a driving force of encouragement in their lives, I pray he rest in peace.

Mr. Finn was an excellent teacher and such a kind man. I was lucky to have him while at Ajax High School where he encouraged me to pursue History in my post-secondary studies. I ended up studying History with a focus on American History (his knowledge and stories always fascinated me) and I now work at a museum. I am devastated by this loss, but grateful for the impact he had on me and so many others. Sending love to those he held close.

I was not fortunate enough to be placed in one of Mr. Finn’s classrooms, but I did spend a great deal of time with him at Ajax High School, performing in his Murder Mystery productions from 2010-2012.

He was a wonderful man and a great teacher to all who were lucky enough to meet him. He will be missed greatly. Sending love and light to his family and those whose lives were made brighter by him.

I was lucky enough to have Mr. Finn as my teacher for grade 10 careers and civics. Even now almost 5 years later I consider that class one of my favourites. He was such a kind person and always made me feel welcome in the classroom, he helped me realize my potential and made me a better student. Thank you Mr. Finn, may you rest in peace.

So sorry for your family’s loss, he will be missed.

As a student from Ajax High, and a former student of Mr. Finn’s, I can safely say that he is one of the most loved teachers to have ever taught here. He has impacted so many lives in ways I can’t even describe, including my own. Mr Finn may have honestly been the most kindhearted, genuine person I’ve ever met.

He retired about a year ago now, but every day it still feels like something is missing without him at school.

Thank you for everything, Mr. Finn. I hope you get to travel the world again in the next life.

I had Mr. Finn for history in Grade 10 and 11, and he was a teacher I’ll never forget. He made history come alive and showed how powerful great teaching can be. His passion for the subject is a big reason I want to become a history teacher myself. I’m grateful to have learned from him, and he will be deeply missed.

Mr Finn was my grade 10 history teacher. History was never a subject of particular interest to me, yet he managed to captivate my interest, and make me excited for class everyday. I will always remember his stories, questions of the day, and genuine care for his students. He’s a teacher that my friends and I would stop by his class for, just to have a chat, and he was always more than welcoming. My thoughts and condolences are with his family and all whose lives he’s touched.

Mr. Finn was the most kind hearted, funny and goofy teacher I have ever known. Remembering times where I would see him shopping at Pickering Town Center and he would be buying the class candy apples- he saw and noticed me an striked up a conversation and went out of his way to buy me a candy apple too.
When I was going away on vacation he said write me an essay on the Panama Cannel and ill count it for 70% of your grade, he gave me a generous 98%.
Condolences to the family.

As a former student Mr. Finn was one of the best. I was lucky enough to take one of the American History trips to Washington. My favourite memory was after being told not get in trouble and behave and all the things, we stopped at one of the first monuments and the guide had said we could actually climb on the rocks. We clearly misunderstood because Mr. Finn jumped up on the rocks in the middle of the fountain and immediately security ran down on us. Some quick talking had to happen so we didn't all get kicked out!
He was a kind, dedicated, and an exceptional teacher. I still remember taking his tests and him telling us that spelling counted on the multiple choice, this is one I use with my own students now. He will be missed.

Mr Finn was a spectacular educator who deepened my love for history and writing. I had the privilege to attend a bus trip to Washington and got to tour the Holocaust Museum .
I will forever remember his classes and how engaged and passionate he was with his students . He was a teacher who truly made a difference . I am so sorry for his loss

Mr. Finn was such an amazing teacher. Myself and my husband were lucky to be in his American History class at Ajax High. He had an amazing ability to bring history to life through his teaching.
He was a truly inspiring person and I know he will be missed ❤️

Mr. Finn, I owe you so much of my life for helping me all throughout high school - not just with assignments and the New York trip, which you helped my mom pay for because we were in a rough time - but for helping me recognize my own strength, confidence, and intelligence. That I was worth more than the path I had started high school in. You are one of a few teachers that quite literally saved me and are one of the reasons I am where I am today.

With the utmost love and gratitude, rest in peace.

Mr Finn was my grade 11 history teacher. I loved his stories, and his unique way of teaching along with an absolutely wonderful speech at our grade 12 graduation. I was one of many students whom he had touched throughout his career. I’m deeply saddened to learn of his passing and will keep your family in my prayers. A great man who will be remembered by many, and positively impacted many of our lives 💙

I have the fondest memories of Mr Finn, he was my high school history teacher and really altered the course of my life. He was instrumental in mentoring me to go to university and because of him got an undergraduate degree in history.

His legacy lives on though the hearts and minds of all the students he taught.

Ashley Stacewicz

Mr. Finn left an impact on me as his briefly former student. I was informed of politics, history, philosophy and more in morning classes that I’ll never forget. He was such a meaningful teacher to me and any other students who got to experience his presence. Though, I’m grateful I got to experience his last semester at the school prior to retirement, and I’m grateful I’ve been changed as a person due to his passion as a teacher and as a wonderful human being.

I really wish I could’ve told him about all the recent theatre I’ve seen and watched so far, and I wish I could write another paragraph on the day’s political lesson and topic. But the impact he had on me and others will never be forgotten, and I will miss him a lot and I’m glad he shaped me and other kids to become more than who we are and were.

Maurice you are sorely missed. My friend and mentor. You taught me everything I know in our shared profession like our amazing trips! I always enjoyed our chats and our own summer road trips. You enjoyed life! You taught me some history, shared stories about your adventures, shows and family. You always supported everyone in their dreams and goals. Thank you for being in my corner and checking in on my life. Your advice always was helpful :)
We planned a road trip this summer…maybe I will still do it this summer or after I retire next year buddy, but this time I will do the driving and talking and you can just come along for the ride! I’ll miss you a lot.

Mr Finn was an incredible teacher.

His soft-spoken tone ensured everyone was actually listening, I learned so much from him.

He taught in a way that made you want to learn whatever he was willing to teach.

Mr Finn changed a lot of lives at Ajax High, he definitely changed mine.

I will forever cherish his class, as well as the performance's he put on with murder mystery.

You will forever be cherished and missed Mr Finn, rest in peace sir.

Mr Finn taught both of my children and was a favourite of both. His humour, engagement and passion for history was a bright spot for all of us. I enjoyed speaking with him and his generosity helped my son when he forgot his suitcase on a history trip. He was an amazing role model and he will be missed by his many students, past and present.

My favorite teacher, who inspired me to complete my education even during my toughest times, I want you to know that I graduated high school and have now started college, with just a year remaining. Thank you for your words of encouragement: "Never say you can’t, even if you try." You always introduced me to new magical experiences that helped me manage my stress.

I love you so much. You were like a dad to me, not just my father in law. You always told me just to call you "dad" and genuinely welcomed me into the family with loving arms. Although it was hard for you to say "I love you" back, I know you loved me, through your actions. I'll forever miss you.

It was clear to anyone that Mr. Finn was a man that knew how to enjoy life. We'll miss you and your spelling bee❤️

I was fortunate to be Mr. Finn’s student for two years at Ajax High from 2017-2019, and even more fortunate to perform four of his murder mysteries.
This man was not only a joy, but he opened my eyes and quite literally changed my life by allowing me to explore theatre.
Because of him, I saw New York, I attended Sheridan College for theatre, and I’m now a certified teacher trying to emulate his light in the profession.
All my thoughts and love are with the family, and know we mourn with you.

Mr Finn was a great teacher at Ajax High who really cared for his students ! May he rest in peace 🥺🕊🙏🏽

Mr. Finn took us downtown to explore some local history and some historical buildings. He had a wealth of knowledge to share.

As someone who grew up around Mr. Finn, I am so thankful to have met him. From his wonderful and well-imagined Murder Mysteries to his amazing trips, I surely benefitted from all his love. I will never forget being called on to act in one of the mysteries, despite not being a student but a colleague's daughter, nor will I ever forget travelling to Washington and New York on his history trips. Mr. Finn was so knowledgeable and excited to share his passions with others. I am so grateful to him and the experiences he provided for the community. I will miss him❤️

Morris you will be missed. I will always remember you as Morris from our high school days. I'm glad we had the opportunity to reconnect after so many years. I have great memories of you that I will never forget. You were taken way too soon. I hope you got to accomplish some of your life's dreams before you left. RIP my friend. You will never be forgotten.

I taught at Ajax H S with Maurice and although I was in the math department, he invited me to be a chaperone on one of his many school trips to Washington. He was extremely knowledgeable in American history and loved to share his passion with his students.
He was an interesting man and excellent teacher , loved and respected by his students. He will be missed and my prayers and thoughts are with his family and friends.
May he rest in peace
