

Maurice Charles Patchen, lovingly known as Morrie, age 71, of Whitby, Ontario, passed away unexpectedly on December 26.
Morrie was born on November 1, 1954, in Waterloo, New York. He was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth Patchen and Adelma “Sally” Patchen; his sister Kathie (Jimmy) and his brother Lee and sister-in-law Connie.
He is survived by his devoted wife Ruth of 45 years, his beloved son Morgan and daughter-in-law Ashley, and his cherished grandchildren Cullen and Dallas, who were truly the light of his life. Morrie is also fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews in the United States, as well as by his many close friends.
Morrie was a professional drummer and a proud graduate of Berklee school of Music. His love of music was lifelong and deeply woven into who he was. In addition to his musical career, Morrie dedicated over four decades of service to the Region of Durham, where he worked from 1982 onward.
Known for his unconditional love, kindness, and steady presence, Morrie meant the world to his family and friends. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness.
Morrie will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his warmth, generosity, and the love he gave so freely.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Morrie’s memory to the Charles H. Best Centre.
A visitation will be held at Oshawa Funeral Home, located at 847 King Street West, Oshawa, Ontario, L1J 2L4, on January 9, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The funeral service will take place at the same venue on January 10, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.
Following the service, a committal service will be held at Union Cemetery, 760 King St W, Oshawa, Ontario, L1J 2L3, from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.
