Norman Edwin Little passed away at Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry on April 29th, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Maureen (née McAlpine) and much loved father of Sandra (Jim) and Christopher (Fay). He was predeceased by his parents Iola and William Little, of Belfast, N.Ireland.
He will be sadly missed by his granddaughters Paisley, Maya and Violet, as well as his brothers, Raymond and Ivan, his sister, Caroline, and their families.
Growing up in Northern Ireland, Norman was an avid soccer fan, and followed his favourite team, Linfield, to every corner of the province. Norman retained his affection for his old team all of his life. The Leafs and Jays did steal his heart, but his soul belonged to Linfield! In his senior year at High School, Norman won a place on the Northern Ireland High School’s Cricket team as a scorer - perhaps foreshadowing his accounting career, with his love of numbers and statistics.
When he qualified as an accountant in 1970, he emigrated to Toronto where he began building his career with BDO Canada LLP. In 1971 he returned to Belfast to marry his long time girlfriend and love of his life, Maureen. Together they built their home in Richmond Hill, where they welcomed their first child Sandra. Later their lives brought them to King City, where their second child Christopher was born. And finally they made their home in Oshawa, where they would host their grandchildren and watch them grow.
Throughout his career, Norman forged many friendships among his clients and colleagues, finding common ground that took his relationships beyond business. He really enjoyed meetings that would take care of business in half an hour, and that would allow 2 hours to share stories and anecdotes.
Norman’s heart belonged to his family. Whether he was driving to Disneyland in California with a car full of happy kids, encouraging a reluctant sister to take her little brother to a train museum, climbing the hills in Halifax, or eating a fancy dinner in Dana Point or Ottawa, he was at his happiest when the whole family could be together. When sitting around the table at these gatherings, he loved recounting all of the details of his life back in Northern Ireland. You could hear the pure enthusiasm in his voice whenever he talked about those early days, and that is a memory we will hold on to forever.
Visitation will be held at the Oshawa Funeral Home, 847 King Street West, Oshawa, Ontario, L1J2L4, on May 30, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm, followed by a Memorial Service from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.
