It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick Frank Gibson, affectionately known to many as “Hoot,” on June 13, 2026, at the age of 78.
Pat was born on December 8, 1947, and spent his life building a legacy defined by hard work, loyalty, kindness, and an unwavering devotion to those he loved. He was also a gifted storyteller whose larger-than-life tales and quick wit brought laughter to every gathering. Whether sharing memories from years gone by or finding humor in everyday moments, Pat had a way of making people feel welcome and entertained. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who found joy in the simple pleasures of life and the people who shared it with him.
Pat leaves behind his beloved wife, Lynne, with whom he shared a lifetime of adventures after marrying in 1972. Together, they built a family rooted in love, laughter, and resilience. He will be deeply missed by his children, James (Denise) and Jenny (Frank), and by his cherished grandchildren, Marley, Ruby, Claire, and Olivia, all of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.
He was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Joseph Gibson, and by his siblings, Joy and Joe. He is survived by his siblings, Charlie and Deborah, along with many extended family members and dear friends.
Pat worked for many years as a purchaser before finishing his career doing what came naturally to him as a handyman. He had a remarkable ability to fix almost anything and was always happiest when creating, building, or tinkering. His love of woodworking and stained glass reflected both his creativity and patience.
Pat treasured the friendships he built throughout his life. Loyal, kind, and always quick with a joke, he had a way of making those around him feel a part of the family. Among the relationships he held closest to his heart was his lifelong friendship with Brian. Having met in kindergarten, the two shared decades of adventures, laughter, and unwavering friendship that stood the test of time.
Pat loved spending time at the cottage, creating memories with family and friends, and escaping to Mexico with Lynne, where they spent several weeks, each year enjoying the sunshine and embracing the spirit of adventure they shared. It was only fitting that he greeted so many people with his signature “ola” whenever they walked into the room.
Above all else, Pat was most proud of his family. He worked tirelessly to provide for those he loved and found his greatest joy in watching his children and grandchildren grow.
Pat also had a playful side. He was an enthusiastic fan of Elvis and had a lifelong love of Superman — passions that brought him joy throughout the years and became part of what made him uniquely Pat.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Pat’s life during visitation at Oshawa Funeral Home (847 King Street West, Oshawa, ON L1J2L4, CA,) on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Following his wishes, cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Lung Association would be appreciated by the family. https://www.lung.ca/
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in the countless stories, laughter, and memories Pat leaves behind. His steady presence, warm smile, familiar “ola,” and the love he shared so freely will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
