I have very fond memories of the times that Uncle Peter, Aunt Qurina, Aunt Carol and Uncle John would visit at the family cottage up on Kennisis Lake. Uncle Peters guitar was never too far and the stories he would tell were all the more interesting by the way he would tell them. The Saturday nights at the Marina dance hall were so much fun when the great band that Uncle Peter was part of, would rock everyone around the clock until midnight. I can't remember if it was Uncle Peter or Aunt Qurina that turned me on the the salty black Dutch licorice that I still crave today.
Uncle Peter was fun, handsome, kind and smart and will be in our hearts forever.
Till we meet again.

During the Indian Summer of 1998, together with my mother, I visited Canada. For a month we were invited to stay with my sister Lilian and brother-in-law Niel, surrounded with all kinds of hospitality by all members of the family. Uncle Pete and aunt Qurina invited us several times at their home, and I remember them taking us for a trip to Niagra Falls. We had an amazing day, all of us together in the camper and uncle Pete singing along with Willy Nelson ‘On the road again’. He was a born entertainer, a perfect host and brought us an unforgetable trip around Lake Toronto, ending up at the falls.
I still think of that experience with warm feelings and will remember Uncle Pete that way.

When I think of Peter I think of Joie de Vivre; he knew how to enjoy life. I remember Qurina and him driving west for our wedding. They drove everywhere in that van, singing and Qurina feeding him hard boiled eggs. He entertained us with Dutch cowboy songs--- I wish I had learnt some of them. Peter made you feel included and loved. And what a story teller- whether it was of Qurina and his travel adventures, stories of growing up in Holland, or of his time in Florida and the plays he helped organize or of the many musical bands he was part of- he always had you laughing. The world seems a little sadder without him, but I like to think he has gone ahead to organize things for us. And, I'm sure he's already part of a fantastic band. He lived life well. Pete, you are beautiful, man.
