

Reginald George Peter Jackson was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Reginald will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Reginald was born on December 20, 1920 in Glasgow, Scotland than moved to Canada at a young age and was raised in Toronto. He was the son of Albert Peter Jackson and Sara Jackson.
Reginald was raised with two sisters, Kathleen and Grace. Reginald was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
As a young boy, Reginald had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. Reginald was an active child who took part in hockey, baseball and running. He was also a member of the YMCA and in his spare time he liked to play most sports. Reginald's memorable achievements included winning at many running events.
A typical teenager, Reginald had a fairly happy school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He attended Catholic School and enjoyed some classes more than others, having favourite subjects and teachers.
On February 1, 1946 Reginald exchanged wedding vows in Petersfield, England with Elsie Crump, his war bride from Sheffield, England. Empathic and loyal, Reginald was committed to making his new family happy.
Reginald worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Reginald was blessed with four children, two sons, Reg and Peter and two daughters, Barbara and Brenda. Another blessing for Reginald was the gift of five grandchildren, Stacy, Christopher, Andrew, Sarah Meghan and Rachel, two great grandchildren Christopher and Taylor and one on the way, Jackson.
Fortunately, Reginald enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Reginald worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was foremost as a Soldier, and later a Banker. He was employed for many years. He retired from the Royal Bank of Canada, was a long time member of the Royal Regiment of Canada and was a Military Instructor at Upper Canada College. Reginald always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Reginald joined the Military at the age of 18 and was overseas by the age of 19 with the 48th Highlanders. He returned home in 1946 after assisting with repatriation of Canadian Soldiers. He was stationed in Italy and North Africa and saw action in WWII. Through his hard work, he achieved the rank of Regimental Major. He received several awards recognizing him for his service, including numerous medals for bravery and battle campaigns. His fellow soldiers viewed him as a brother in arms and knew that he was as much a part of their family as their loved ones back home.
Reginald enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favourite pursuits were swimming, baseball and hockey, he also raised 100 or so chickens when his children were young while living in Pickering, with one rooster named Percy.
Reginald found pleasure in sports. Recreational sports included golf, swimming and watching and coaching his son and grandchildren in hockey. Reginald was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favourite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Tops on his list were baseball, hockey and soccer. The last few years he enjoyed watching the Tour de France.
Reginald’s faith was important to him. He was born and raised a Catholic.
Reginald enjoyed travelling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favourite vacations included England and enjoyed a memorable trip to China with his son-in-law Thomas Anderson.
Reginald was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. He raised three German shepherds when children were very young while living in Pickering. Reginald and Elsie took good care of Peter's dog King for many years.
When Reginald’s retirement finally arrived in 1980, he was well prepared. In retirement, he found new pleasure in golf, baseball games and spending time with his grandchildren. Even in retirement, Reginald continued to stay in touch with his old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. Reginald was active in his new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered him.
Reginald passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 12, 2016 at Hillsdale Terraces in Oshawa, Ontario. He is survived by his children Reg, Barbara, Brenda and Peter, his grandchildren Stacy, Christopher, Andrew and Rachel, and his great grandchildren Christopher and Taylor. He is predeceased by his granddaughter, Sarah Meghan. Services were held at Oshawa Funeral Home. Reginald was laid to rest in Thornton Cemetery in Oshawa, Ontario.
Simply stated, Reginald was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Reginald leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Reginald George Peter Jackson.

Passed away peacefully in his sleep at Hillsdale Terraces on November 12th, 2016 at the age of 95. Predeceased by his loving wife Elsie (2003). Loving father of Reg Jackson (Gwen) of Portsmouth, England, Barbara Anderson (late Thomas) of Langley, B.C., Brenda Binder (late Robert) of Windsor, Ontario and Peter Jackson (Brenda) of Pickering, Ontario. Stepfather of Ronald Dawtry of Kingsville, Ontario. Adored Papa of Stacy Ohlsson (Claudio), Rachel Binder, Christopher Jackson (Natalia), Andrew Jackson (Alexandra) and late Sarah Binder (2007). Great grandfather of Christopher Ohlsson, Taylor Ohlsson and anticipated baby boy Jackson on the way. Predeceased by his parents and by his sisters Grace and Kathleen. Reginald will also be missed by dear and caring friends Margaret and Kay. Reginald will be forever remembered as a caring and loving father who was an avid golfer, sportsman and dedicated to his family and grandchildren. It was a great pleasure to him to attend every hockey and baseball games. Retired after many years of service with Royal Bank of Canada and longtime member of the Royal Regiment of Canada. Visitation will be held at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Monday, November 21st, from 10:00 a.m. until time Funeral Service in the Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Thornton Cemetery.
