Vinette (Lyn) Helwig was born February 5th, 1934 in Mt Moriah St Ann Jamaica. She was the only girl born to the Late Jackson and Olga Lyn. Vinette had 5 brothers Carl, Donald, Chester, Hal and Harry. The family moved to Kingston in the late 1940's. As a young woman, Vinette was a real beauty queen prompting her to enter into the Miss Chinese Jamaica contest placing top three. Vinette was educated at Excelsior High School and joined Barclays Bank soon after graduation. After the bank was taken over by NCB, she continued employment as a highly respected Mortgage Manager for the company. Vinette married Deryk Helwig on July 8th, 1961 and they had one child, Suyen Helwig. In 1979, Vinette and her family migrated to Canada where she continued her banking career with Barclays Bank Canada until her retirement. Vinette lived life to the fullest and remained active through her retirement travelling to various countries with her husband Deryk. The majority of her traveling included yearly trips back to their native home of Jamaica to escape the cold winter months of Canada. Vinette and Deryk celebrated 50 years of marriage before his death in 2011. As a beloved Mother, Sister and Aunt she was generous, loving and kind to her entire family. Vinette also cherished the many decades of friendships with countless friends, who became her extended family. Vinette will be greatly missed and is survived by her daughter Suyen Helwig, brothers Hal Lyn, Harry Lyn, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones.
