

Betty M. Scott, 92, of Markle, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017. She was born on May 27, 1925 in Huntington County, a daughter of the late Palmer A. and Emma (Bair) Hillegas, Sr. She worked primarily as a homemaker, but also worked at GE during World War II, Lutheran Hospital, and Corning Glass Works. She was a member of Bluffton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. She loved sharing her faith in Jehovah God with all she met. She will be remembered for her radiant cheerful smile and she never knew a stranger. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and dearly loved her large family. The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff and second family at Markle Health and Rehab. Surviving family include her children, Robert V. (Lesa) Scott, Jr., Susan (Chuck) Reynolds, Daniel (Laura) Scott, Alice Nowikowski, Jennifer Ellebracht, Edie Scott, James (Deb) Scott, William Scott; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; four step grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, one step great great grandchild; sister-in-law, Phyllis Hillegas; half siblings, Charles and Martha; step sister, Linda Ralston; step brother, John Huffman; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert V. Scott, Sr., whom she married on April 8, 1943 and preceded her in death on June 3, 1995; and siblings, Adelia Rice, Arnetta Von Holten, Palmer A. Hillegas, Jr., James Hillegas. Funeral service is 10:30 am on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120W. Mill St., Ossian with visitation starting at 10:00 am. Visitation will also be from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Ossian.
