Edwin "Ed" M. Herman, 79, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021. He was born at home in Allen County on May 12, 1942, the youngest child of Walter S. Herman and Sarah Louise (Confer) Herman. As a teenager, he delivered bulk milk (cans) to Wayne Co-op and Eskay Dairies for various milk producers. In his twenties, he worked for American Hoist and Chaney Combustion. In March 1971, he and his brother, Raymond, founded Alton Combustion. In addition, Ed was a welder and worked on high-pressure steam vessels. Throughout his life, his one great passion was farming with IH equipment. Ed was a 50-year member of the Brick Masons and a longtime member of Maumee Valley Antique Steam and Gas Association. He and Linda Mazelin were married January 27, 1968, she survives. Survivors also include his brother, Raymond Herman; Ed and Linda's "adopted" son, Justin; and 12 nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; his oldest brother, Donald Herman; and sister, Mable McMillen. Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120 West Mill Street, Ossian, Indiana 46777 with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held Wednesday, July 7, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
