It is with great sorrow that the family of Alex Mykytiuk announces the news of his passing on April 4th after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. Alex was the youngest son of Philip and Anastasia (Wynnyk) Mykytiuk. He was predeceased by his parents as well as his father and mother-in law (Gregory and Dora Szymanski). He was the cherished husband of Diane for 56 years and the loving father of Donna (Brian) and Christina (Darren); grandfather to Brandon (Lily), Matthew, Natasha and Ryan; Tyler and Garrett; great grandfather to Isabelle and Austin, and brother to Lawrence (Anne), Ambrose, Father Cyril OSBM, and Basil (Joyce); brother-in-law to Walter and Stephen (Helen). He is also fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, his cousins, and his many friends. Alex was employed at the National Research Council as a Research Technician for many years and he was a chartered member of St. Vladimir The Great Knights of Columbus Council. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses, the personal support workers, and Dr. Emilie Daigneault at the Promenade retirement home for their support and care. The Panachyda service will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home and the Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Shrine on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Due to pandemic restrictions, a family service will be held, however, both services will be live-streamed for all to view at www.funeraweb.tv. Donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Shrine, the Parkinson’s Society, Canada, or to a charity of your choice in memory of Alex.

Diane, Donna and Christina,
Marianne and I would like to extend our most sincere condolences to you and your families. I will be forever grateful Diane, to you and Alex, for making me feel welcome during my multiple postings to Ottawa. Although schedules precluded us from getting together as much as I would have liked, it was always special to know that I had family in the city and to chat from time to time after Divine Liturgy. May you be comforted by many wonderful memories, and please know that although we are separated by distance, you are a cherished part of our family, and are very much in our thoughts and prayers.

Diane and Family,
With our deepest sympathies on the passing of a truly fine man. I have fond memories of Alex at the Wynnyk family reunion, always curious, engaging, and ready with a quip in response to Basil's punny humour. May the passing of time ease the sorrow and bring back happy memories,
Sincerely
Theresa Wynnyk

Dear Diane and Family please accept my condolences on Alex's passing.
It was a great experience and honor to work with Alex in the same lab. In very short time he shared his knowledge and passed his work ethics to me so GDMS will survive many more years.

Our most sincere condolences on your loss of Alex, Diane. We’re sure that the grandchildren will especially miss Dido. But his best legacy will surely be the fine daughters, Christina and Donna, that you both raised and their families.
We wish you a time to heal from your loss and strength in your dear family together.
