Thank you for coming today as we honor our friend, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Alice Moyes. Alice was a wonderful human being with a gentle soul and a kind heart and there is no doubt in my heart that she would not want us to cry over her passing but rejoice and be happy for her that she has crossed the river to be with her loving husband, her family and our loving Lord.
Alice was born in Ottawa on April 12th, 1928 to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hayes. Alice had a wonderful childhood and married at the very early age of 15 to Mr. William Arthur Moyes. Together, they had a beautiful marriage full of love, respect, and caring for one another. From this marriage came Ronald Moyes (predeceased), Richard Moyes (Mercedes Byrde), Shirley Wilkinson (Bruce Noel), Holly Spurvey (Richard), Melody McDonald (Randy). Alice was a cherished grandmother to Paul, Lisa, Amanda, Shania, and Tyler, beloved great grandmother to Joshua, Arien, Angela, Marshal, and Aiden. Alice was a beloved sister to Tommy and Allen Hayes, predeceased by brothers and sisters Madeline, Fred, Eunice, Curtis, Garnet, Billy, and Don.
Alice and William Started there own moving business shortly after they were married and moved to 1364 Scott St. where they raised their children and lived there happily. Later they moved to 3216 Blais Rd. William became interested and pursed his interest in harness racing, Alice and William owned horses and he loved Alice so much that he even named one of his horses after his loving wife, Flying Alice. Alice and William loved to do family things with their children such as outings, camping and bowling as often as they could.
Alice was the consummate prankster, she loved to laugh and make people laugh. The one thing she loved more than laughing at something was laughing at her self. She could make any one smile and forget their troubles, if only for a minute. Alice, as those of us that know her, was well known at bingo parlors, nationally and internationally. There she was known as quite a prankster as well. She was known for chasing other players jokingly around the hall because her numbers weren't called and someone else won the pot. Alice and her oldest and dearest friend of over 60 years were well known in our bingo halls for their antics and laughter and the joy they brought to all. In fact, Doris even had a horse named after her “Bingo Doris”. If the truth be told, if you wanted to get Alice's attention, just mention bingo and she had her purse in her hand and was half way out the door before you could stop her. She loved to play tricks, especially at Christmas, she really loved Christmas. She would hide gifts so no one would peak, and then forget where she put them. How many of you received gifts after Christmas sometimes a long time after Christmas. That was our Alice, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, sister and friend.
Alice didn't have a mean bone in here body; she didn't like to see anyone hurt for any reason. But don't let that kind soul fool you, she was a real firecracker when it came to speaking her mind, and even then she could do it with love and kindness. She had no boundaries on family ties. She loved and welcomed everyone into her home. Our friends when we were children loved to come over because our mother would treat them like family and make them feel at home. She was a giver, not just to her family and friends but to the needy as well. She would frequently help out with meals at St. James Church, especially during holidays and turkey dinners. She loved every one and was loved by all.
She also loved her hockey games; you could hear her yelling at her team for miles around. Alice never missed her grandson Tyler's hockey games wearing the team scarf and yelling the young players on.
When tomorrow starts without me
and I'm not here to see...
If the sun should rise and find your
eyes filled with tears for me,
I wish so much you wouldn't cry
the way you did today...
While thinking of the many things
we didn't get to say.
I know how much you love me,
as much as I love you...
And each time you think of me,
I know you'll miss me, too.
But when tomorrow starts without me,
please try to understand...
That William came and called my name
and took me by the hand,
And said my place was ready
in heaven far above...
And that I'd have to leave behind
all those I dearly love.
So when tomorrow starts without me,
don't think we're far apart...
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here in your heart.
On Thursday May 1st, 2008, Alice Moyes peacefully passed away, where, I know she was greeted by one of God's angels and was escorted to heaven and the loving arms of her family, Jesus, and our loving God, may she rest in peace and lets hope for heaven's sake that heaven has bingo parlors.
Thank you for coming today, seeing you all here would have made her very happy to know how much she was loved and missed.
