June 9, 1951 - June 5, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Richard Young on June 5, 2026 at the age of 74.
Brian was born June 9, 1951, in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. His father, Richard Henry Young, was in the Canadian Army working on the Alaska Highway. Brian's mother, Jean Clermont Cairns, was a nursing sister during the war, who grew up in Swift Current, Sask. Brian has fond memories of growing up with his siblings Susan, Margot, and Peter.
Brian attended high school and university in Ottawa. After residency in Montreal, he started a 39-year career as a physician in Cornwall, Ontario. He worked in the Emergency Department, a walk-in clinic, with the paramedics, on Akwesasne, and in family practice.
Brian met his beautiful, believing wife, Janette in August of 1983 on a blind date in Toronto. They fell in love and married in Brockville, Ontario in 1985. They moved to Lancaster, Ontario, and over the next four years, Janette gave birth to four strong and handsome boys, Peter, Mathew, Andrew, and David.
In 2008 Brian developed increasing muscle weakness that eventually led to a diagnosis of Inclusion Body Myositis. As his condition worsened, he was no longer able to work, retired from practice, and was confined to a wheelchair. He considered his illness a great blessing as it gave him more time to be with God, more time in the Word, and more time with his family. The family also includes his beautiful daughters-in-law, Brianna, Alex, and Jill. His grandchildren Noah, Georgia, Sophie, Stella, Mackenzie, William, Hattie, Ryan, Grant, and Landon were all precious to him.
Richard Baxter, "yet suffering unlocks the door of the heart so that the Word enters more easily."
In keeping with Brian’s wishes, a private funeral service will be held with family.
