Passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on June 18, 2026 at the age of 90. Cora was predeceased by her beloved husband Andreas Marinus Suurland and their cherished son Andreas Jr. Cora leaves behind her sons Carl (Anne) and Mike (Jenny) and her daughter Ann-Marie. Oma will be remembered by her treasured grandchildren Andrea (Dimitri), Jason (Christina) Hazel and Fenna; and by precious great-granddaughter Chloe. Corrie will be warmly recalled always by her many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Heartfelt thanks to staff at The Ottawa Hospital General Campus for giving her the best care possible.
Born on December 4, 1935 in The Hague, Netherlands, Corrie was the daughter of Karel and Maria Lemmen and the sister of Karel Lemmen Jr. Cornelia and Andreas immigrated to Canada in 1962 with their young son Andreas Jr. They settled and grew their family in Ottawa’s Overbrook neighbourhood. They became valued members of their community and formed life-long friendships with neighbours and other Dutch expats. They played cards, they bowled, they raised their families together. Mrs. Suurland touched the lives of many people and was known for her generosity, her fierce love of her family, her surprising sense of humour, her endless supply of candy and for riding her bicycle around her neighbourhood well into her 70s. Cornelia Elizabeth was a devoted mother and Oma who loved nothing more than having her family around her. She was loved, and she will be missed.
