July 8, 1949 - September 14, 2018
Age 69. Following a lengthy illness, died peacefully at the General Hospital with family by his side. Survived by his devoted partner Marie Murray, loving sister Deborah Stewart (Ralph Webster), stepsons Blair (Lois), Ross (Allison) and Mike (Susan), 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Pre-deceased by his mother Winona (nee Hesse) and father James. Dave was born in Regina, Sask. His early childhood was spent on a farm near Wilcox where he briefly attended a one-room school. The family then moved into Regina and, in 1962, moved to Lethbridge Alta where Dave joined the Air Cadets. In 1965, the family moved to Ottawa where Dave attended Laurentian High School and Algonquin College, majoring in business administration. Following graduation from college, Dave worked as Manager and loans officer of several Royal Bank branches in Montreal and Southern and Eastern Ontario before joining The Canada Revenue Agency in Ottawa as a business requirements analyst. He retired from Revenue in 2008. Dave was a passionate follower of baseball, hockey, and especially football and remained a life-long supporter of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, keeping rosters of the team and players for well over 50 years. Dave enjoyed exploratory drives in the country, trivia, bad jokes, playing Wahoo, and rock and pop music of the ‘60’s and ’70’s. He especially loved spending time with Marie and his “adopted” grandkids and great-grandkids. Friends and family will miss his sense of humour and his love of a good laugh. A Memorial Visitation will be held at McEvoy-Shields, 1411 Hunt Club Road, Tuesday September 25, 2018 from 2-5 pm. Donations to Diabetes Canada or to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation (General Campus).
