It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Donald Gordon Gowan on September 12, 2023. Don is deeply mourned by his loving wife of 56 years Mary, daughters Elizabeth and Heather (Andrew) and his grandchildren Mary and James, who were the apple of his eye. He is predeceased by his father, Kenneth Gowan, and mother Helen Gowan (McMorran) of Hagersville and survived by his sisters Ruth (Ted) and Laura (Ian).Don had a long and accomplished career that began with 28 years in the Federal Government and concluded with close to 20 years running a human resources consultancy. He dedicated his life to service as an active church and community volunteer, receiving the Governor General’s award for community service and the United Way Volunteer of the Year award. He shared his passion for travel, sports and theatre with his friends and family. A celebration of life service will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 82 Kent Street, on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. Parking is available across the street at the Supreme Court. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Marco Depestre Foundation of Ottawa, or the Caring and Sharing Exchange.
