Don passed away peacefully at Bruyere Hospital in Ottawa on May 21, 2019 with his son Tom and nephew Keith Kearns by his side.
He will be dearly missed by his wife Jo (Gibbons), daughter Patti (John Poirier), son Tom, daughter Mary Jo (Patrick Cyr), grandchildren Mitchell and Katie.
Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Inez Kearns of Quyon, Quebec, sisters, Mildred (Walter McBane), Florence (Vincent Kilroy), brothers Gerald (Aileen), Golden (Audrey), Lorne (Evangeline), Wilfred, Melville , Fred (Beth), Ken (Isabelle), Tom (Berna), Wallace.
Sadly missed but remembered with love by his sisters in law, Marie , Noreen, Eileen, Arlene, Ann, Lorna and Fran.
He was the youngest of 12 children. He is remembered by his 75 nieces and nephews.
Don was a dedicated family man, adored by his grandchildren. He was a sports fan, avid golfer and longtime member of the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club course. He spent many years fundraising for the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Don was a man of faith which reflected in his acts of kindness to his family and friends.
Visitation will be on Sunday, May 26th from 6pm to 9pm at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home and Chapel, 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, ON K1V 1A6.
Funeral mass at 11am on Monday, May 27th, 2019 at Holy Cross Parish, 685 Walkley Road, Ottawa, ON K1V 6R8.
