With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Donald Joseph “DJ” Ouimet on May 12, 2025. Despite telling us that he had “one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel” for the past 40 years, he managed to live to 96 years of age. We were very blessed to have had him in our lives for so long.
DJ loved being surrounded by family, especially when he had his grandchildren spending summer days by the pool and every event was a reason for a get -together. He was always there for us. From fixing and building things, to a listening ear. He was known for offering pearls of wisdom through his many sayings, lovingly referred to as “DJ-isms”.
Don leaves behind his wife of 71 years, Lois (nee Clarke), his children Michael (Lise), Christine (Dave), Sandy (Bert), his youngest brother Richard (Kate) and his grandchildren, Elaine (Pat), Laura, Christopher (Kate), Jeff (Michaela), Michelle (Kate) and his immense pride of great-grandchildren Charlie, Grace, Teddy, Alfie, Finley and Alexander and many nieces and nephews.
We take comfort in knowing Don is at peace, reunited with his son David, whom he missed deeply and other family members. He will forever be a part of us, present in our memories, in the values he taught, the jokes he told and in the love that binds our family together.
Many thanks to the staff at Perley Health that supported Don in the last few years. A very special thank you to our caregiving angels Marichelle, Lolita, Eli, Hazel and Cokie. They provided ongoing support that enriched Dad’s life and made the last year enjoyable.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
In memory of DJ, donations to the Perley Health would be appreciated.
