Douglas Raymond McCarthy

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Douglas, March 27, 2024, at the age of 87. Douglas will be forever missed by his family and friends. Cherished by his siblings Ruth (late Keith), Kevin (Teresa). Predeceased by his sister Lorraine. Loving uncle of nieces Carol (Tim), Gwen, Terry-Lee (Pierre), nephews Shawn, Frayne (Kevin), Ian (Jackie), late nephew Spence, as well as his large extended family and many friends. Also fondly remembered by several grand nieces and nephews.

Son of the late Raymond and Kathleen McCarthy (née Field), Douglas was born in Venosta, PQ and raised in the upper Gatineau/Ottawa area. He was a skilled tradesman (journey man) and worked as a Drywall Finisher and Plasterer in Ottawa for more than 35 years. Douglas loved spending time on the farm, working the land and carpentry. Soft spoken and modest, he was always available to help a friend or neighbor. He always enjoyed a telephone call and keeping up with folks. Douglas loved traditional fiddle music. He was hardworking and meticulous in his work and crafted many pieces from wood cut from the family farm. Recently Doug had been enjoying his condo in Ottawa and met many lovely, kind people (thanks to Mark for the drives to appointments).

A visitation will be held at McEvoy Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, ON on Friday, April 5th from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held at Holy Cross Church, 435 Fieldville Road, Low, Quebec on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 10:30 am followed by interment at the parish cemetery.
