Dad passed away peacefully, following a weekend of laughing and sharing stories with his grandchildren. Loving father of Valerie, Cindy (Paul Noah), Debbie (Daly McLaughlin) and Pat. A proud Papa of Emily (Jesse Edwards), Kathleen (Greg McLaughlin), Kelsey, Marlie, Shayne, Cody and Great-Papa of Noah, Abigail and Freddie. Predeceased by his parents William & Sarah (Daly) and siblings Eddie, Hilda, Linus, Rita, Angus, Arden, Bertha, Bert and Orville. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Dad was a valued employee of RL Crain Ltd. He was a talented athlete, excelling at hockey and baseball. He dedicated many hours to maintaining our personal outdoor rink. In his retirement, “Coach” was a fixture behind the bench for the Sunday morning hockey team and was instrumental in guiding the O’Connor baseball team to their dynasty at the Venosta Clan Tournament.

Dad had a sharp wit and an invincible memory. Many stories and phrases will live on. He was a talented singer although, the longer the party, the longer it took to sing the song.

In his retirement, Dad was committed to visiting the sick and elderly. He treasured the time spent with his friends at Carlingwood. When young, his grandchildren looked forward to his visits on Saturdays (“Papa Day”). He spent many hours pushing them on swings and watching them in arenas. As they got older, he shared a few drinks with them! Dad was comforted by his faith.

Heartfelt thanks to the extraordinary staff at the Barrhaven Manor for the caring community they have established and for the quality of care provided.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday May 27, from 2 to 8 pm at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home 1411 Hunt Club Rd. Funeral Mass on Saturday at 11 am in Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Venosta Qc.

Please join us for lunch immediately following the mass. A private interment will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Venosta Recreation Association.
