April 16, 1925 – December 29, 2013
After coping for 3 years with evermore debilitating issues and still carrying on, thankfully Gerry passed away peacefully in hospital on December 29th, 2013 in her 89th year. She was the eldest daughter of the late Catherine Mullins and John Manion (both deceased), loving sister of Frances Elliott (Howard deceased) Tatamagouche Nova Scotia and Mary Marini (Steve) Ottawa Ontario. She is predeceased by her siblings Joseph, James, Ann and John. Gerry was a devoted Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Gerry spent her early working life as secretary and executive assistant to several presidents of the E.B. Eddy Lumber Company in Hull Québec. For the last 38 years Gerry was Office Manager and Secretary Treasurer of Informetrica Limited. During her life she also wrote and taught a course of study, accepted by the Ontario Board of Education, designed for married women returning to the workforce in the secretarial field. However, it was in her role as Associate of the Grey Sisters of the Immaculate Conception – an active member of the women’s auxiliary of St Patrick’s Home in Ottawa and a volunteer and supporter of many community groups in Ottawa and Aylmer Sector in Gatineau that the purpose of Gerry’s entire life was demonstrated. A life dedicated to helping others whether it be family, friends or anyone in need; Gerry was there.
At Gerry’s request there will be no visitation and a celebration of her life will be held for her family and friends. at McEvoy-Shields 1411 Hunt Club Rd Ottawa, Saturday January 4th 2014 at 11a.m. with a Reception to follow for family and friends.
A donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or any charity close to your heart would be a fitting way to honor Gerry’s life of giving to others.
