1933 - 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Jean Fong on May 30, 2026.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Jack, her brothers Ernest, Vic (Pat), Richard (Ingrid) and Frank (Simonne) She is survived by her brothers Reg (Paulette) and Gary (Dona), along with her brother-in-law Dave Fong (Murielle), sisters-in-law Marie Fong-Wistaff (late Ron) and Diana Kerr (Bob), and many nephews and nieces.
Jean was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on July 23, 1933, and later moved to Ottawa, Ontario where she met Jack while they were both serving in the Air Force. They were married in 1954.
Jean and Jack were avid and long time curlers and they also enjoyed spending time at the cottage they built on White Lake and later on at their new place in Griffith, Ontario on the Madawaska River. They loved boating, fishing, snowmobiling, ATVing and socializing with neighbours and friends. Later in life, Jean got the bug for traveling and went on numerous cruises and on an African safari.
After Jack’s death in 1996, Jean moved to Griffith full time and had a new home built there. She planned and oversaw all the steps of the building process. Not an easy feat!
Jean was a dedicated past member of the Denbigh Griffith, Arnprior and Barrhaven Lions Clubs. She was also one of the Ambassadors at the Ravines Retirement Home where she resided until her death. Speaking of the Ravines, we would like to extend our special thanks to its staff and particularly to Katie, the nurse who went beyond the call of duty in taking care of Jean.
Jean was a strong and independent person who lived a long and active life. We’re hoping she will be able to continue her love for happy hours and Pinot Grigio in her afterlife. Cheers!
A celebration of Jean’s life will be held from 1-3PM on Friday, June 12, 2026 at the McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road in Ottawa. Remembrances will be shared at 2PM.
Donations to charities of your choice may be made in Jean’s memory.
