Klara Bruehlmann-Furrer was born on September 14, 1949, in Blatten (Luzern), Switzerland, and left us peacefully, at home on July 25, 2026, in Ottawa, Canada, surrounded by her loving family. She touched many lives with her compassion, wisdom, humor, and unwavering spirit.
Though life’s journey took her across oceans, Klara maintained a deep, lifelong closeness with her seven brothers and sisters and extended family in Switzerland. Her adventure began as a young woman when she moved to Paris and later to Ottawa to work as an au pair. Children were always her greatest joy and her gentle, intuitive nature was a gift to every child she cared for. It was in Ottawa that she reconnected with the man who was to become her greatest love, Jules, and together they built a life rooted in deep devotion, sharing 55 wonderful years of marriage.
A woman of immense creativity, Klara was a gifted artist, an avid gardener and a passionate cook. She became widely known for her whimsical pottery animals that continue to bring warmth and charm to the homes of her family, friends, and admirers. A longstanding member of the Swiss Montagna Singers, she cherished both the music and a lifelong community of friendship.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Jules; her three children, Andre (Anna), Sabina (Peter), and Ryan (Erica); and her five cherished grandchildren, Anna, Joseph, Elin, Chase, and Nash, all of whom brought her endless pride and joy.
Her legacy of humor and perseverance will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her remarkable life will forever be an inspiration, and a testament to the power of an indomitable spirit enthused with curiosity and service.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Holy Cross Parish in Ottawa at 685 Walkley Rd, Ottawa, ON.
