We are one of the lucky neighbours across the street who get to enjoy the beauty of Klara's gardening every time we look out our window. What a beautiful obituary of Klara, and we felt honoured to hear the heartfelt eulogies at her service. 

Klara was such a kind, generous and social neighbour. I appreciated her gardening tips. I think of her instruction every time I prune a tree or shrub. My kids still have pottery pieces that she did with them about 15 years ago. 

The tributes to Klara are inspiration to host more and focus on what really matters in life -- relationships with others. As neighbours, we hope we can help to make the days ahead a little less lonely for Jules. We are thinking of all of you during this sad time.

Klara was always one of my favourite people in my parents' circle of friends. I will always remember Klara for her kindness, singing voice, sense of humour and her ability to always seem calm even when organizing large gatherings at the family home or cottage.

I am very grateful that my kids were able to do some pottery with Klara where she showed her artistic talent, her ability to inspire creativity and her extreme patience with very active kids!

My deepest condolence to you all. I wish you a lot of strength in this sad time. I also miss Klara very much.

I was always very proud to have a sister who lives so far away in Canada.  This made traveling much easier for me. I was first able to live with her and her family and from there it was easy to explore this large and beautiful country as well as the USA and Mexico. It was always nice to spend holidays with the Bruehlmanns in Ottawa. Everytime Klara and Jules welcomed me and later my family warmly, and she spoiled us with their cooking skills. I have very fond memories of the days in the cottage. Klara and Jules made it possible for me to live in the middle of the forest, near a quiet lake with all the possibilities for water sports. Those were very nice experiences for me. Then Klara's culinary delicacies tasted even better. I'm not a great singer, but when Klara picked up the guitar in the evening, I couldn't resist and sang along with all my might.

Dear Klara,

We met 55 years ago in Ottawa. We came from opposite sides of the Earth, across different oceans, and spoke two different languages. I could not pronounce your name correctly until now—“Kurara.” But you never corrected me. You were always so kind and generous.

You always looked after me like an older sister, even though you are actually four years younger than I am. You always thought about other people before yourself.

My three children loved your hugs and your wonderful hospitality at Christmas and at your summer cottage. You made us feel like one family. Your kindness continued for many years, even after my children graduated from university and scattered around the world.

We are all fans of your raclette cheese!

I believe that the spirit of you and your husband, Jules, will stay in our hearts forever.

My life in Canada became so much happier and more meaningful because I met you. Thank you. I can never fully express my gratitude.

I could not say goodbye this time. The next time we meet, let us sing Green, Green Grass of Home, just as we did when we first met.

Ottawa is beautiful and so green right now. There are many flowers blooming in your garden and in my garden.

Please watch over me gently on the wind until we meet again.

Klara had the warmest, most generous heart and will be dearly missed by us and those who have been lucky enough to know her.  Klara and my mother came from two different continents, and neither spoke English when they first met, yet their friendship lasted over fifty years.  The Konno family was so fortunate to have shared many wonderful memories of Klara and her family at Christmas, the cottage, and everything in between.  We have little pieces of her art in our homes to always remember her, and I will continue making her delicious cookies for Christmas.  Sending my sincerest condolences to  Jules, Andre, Sabina, Ryan and their families.  Love, Michi and family.

Many good memories from the late 80s when I would come to the house to give piano lessons to the kids.  As a bonus I was always served a wonderful dinner and got a ride to the Swiss Choir practice.  Although I was grateful at the time, only much later, when I had my own family, was I able to fully appreciate how generous the Brühlmanns really were! 
My thoughts and prayers are with Jules and the family.  May God give you the strength to get through this difficult time.

Dear Jules, Andre, Sabina, Ryan, grand-kids and family,

My deepest condolences to you all. 

Klara was such an incredible woman.  From a young age, I remember being so in awe of  how smart and capable Klara was. She taught me how to make a candle from scratch. It felt like magic as the candle grew larger and larger as she patiently told me what to do step-by-step. I still have that candle to this day!    

She entertained me with all sorts of hobbies and art projects. I I loved watching her bake delicious Swiss desserts ( I especially LOVED eating them!).   She had such a gentle yet effective way of coaxing me into doing what she thought was best for me (covering my carrots in gravy and telling me it's chocolate).  

I remember those wild parties at the summer cottage. I'd watch through the hole in the floor from the upstairs room and see you all dancing and singing and playing guitar until the early hours. 

Klara was always so full of joy and life. Generous with her time and her gifts (cookies and all things baked and cooked!) 

Her kind and loving nature will be forever remembered.  God bless you all.

It was a privilege to have know Klara for over 40 years.  We shared so many memories, having spent every New Year's Eve and Thanksgiving together, spending time at the Bruehlmann's cottage, and even talking Klara into venturing out on a cruise to the Panama Canal.  Over the last two years, Klara had a rough  road but she stayed positive, showed a lot of strength and courage to deal with each set-back, never complaining.  Joe and I can never look back on our lives without Klara in it!  We shall miss her dearly.  May she rest in peace!

I am so sorry to hear of the news of Klara’s passing. I really enjoyed her company when I was on the fringes of the Montagna Singers and I have many great memories of travels and sangerfests. Klara was such a lovingly generous person, filled with immense energy and always, always had a beautiful smile on her face. She will be deeply missed. Requiescat in pace dear Klara.

Memories of +50 years of warmth, smiles, and food (racklette, soups, cookies, everything) especially during Christmas and at the cottage gave us a lifetime of comfort and love.  You will be missed dearly.
