It is with great sadness that Lori’s children announce her sudden passing on May 10, 2022, as a result of a traffic accident, at the age of 70. She was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence Fortier and Phyllis (Britton) Fortier. She leaves behind her children, Jason King (Yumi) and Natalie Heydenrych King (Darin), and her siblings Carol Ryan (Kevin), Gerri Marquis (Gérard), and Michael Fortier. She was a very proud and doting grandmother to Graham King, Caspian Heydenrych and Leah Heydenrych. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews, and a rich community of friends and chosen family.
Laurianne died at the Civic Campus of the Ottawa Hospital, which is where she was born, trained, and worked as a nurse for over 40 years. For much of her career she was a neonatal nurse at the Rich Little Special Care Nursery, where she supported new parents and provided life-saving care for the tiniest babies. For Lori, nursing was a calling, and she spent many years balancing life as a mother with challenging but rewarding hospital shift work.
Lori was a warm and caring friend, with a wonderful laugh, a keen sense of humour, and a beautiful smile. She had a varied social life, and enjoyed going to movies and shows, meeting friends for coffee chats, travelling, and dining out. In her retirement, she was an active volunteer; a number of organizations benefited from her energy and generosity. She loved being in nature, and she was happiest surrounded by trees.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Lori’s life at the McEvoy Shields Funeral Home and Chapel (1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa) on Saturday, June 4, at 10:30 am. At the request of the family, guests are asked to mask indoors. For those who can’t attend, the service will be livestreamed and available for replay at https://funeraweb.tv/diffusions/54789
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Donations made in Lori’s name will go to the Rich Little Special Care Nursery. Alternatively, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
