Leon Kozliner passed peacefully on March 19, 2019 in Kingston, Ontario at his daughter’s home at the age of 75 surrounded by his beloved family: his dearest friend Zoia, son Robert, daughter Ethel, son-in-law Phillip Isotalo, and grandchildren Jacob and Pearl. Leon was preceded in death by his dear parents Jacob Kozliner and Judith Kozliner-Katz, his sisters Nona Kozliner and Sarah Benhayon and is survived by his precious family, Sarah’s husband David in Israel, their three beautiful daughters Miriam, Guilla and Sharon, their wonderful husbands and children and his loving cousins Simon Kozliner, Betty Sanders (Terrence Skelton), Marsha Gordon (Sheldon) and their children Rebecca (Maksym Misyura) and Michelle, as well as family in Sweden and Irene Pesa.
Leon was born in Chkalov, Russia and was raised in Riga (Russia at the time), Poland and Israel before immigrating to Canada, a country he loved dearly, in 1968. His life and career focused on helping people which he did in Ottawa through his many shoe repair stores, most notably his Capital Shoe Clinic location at 203 ½ Queen Street. In his fifties, Leon became a Pedorthist C. Ped (C) and had the great pleasure of helping people manage their foot pain at Hunt Club Foot Care/Ottawa Custom Orthotics.
Leon loved his work and worked more than full time up until the day he was diagnosed with glioblastoma in early July 2018. He also adored his role as father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.
A funeral was held in Kingston, Ontario at the Central Chapel of Gordon F. Tompkins Funeral home on Wednesday, March 20 followed by shiva at the family home. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 24 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm with words of remembrance taking place at 1:30 pm at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road at Albion Road in Ottawa, Ontario.
The family would like to thank his caring team of physicians and healthcare workers at the Ottawa Hospital and Cancer Clinic, including Dr. Moulton, nurse practitioner Erin Chapple, Dr. Nair and Dr. Ng as well as his incredible team in Kingston: Dr. Parker, Dr. Flanagan, Dr. Trussler and Dr. Kerr and his nurses Chelsea, Jason and Bellamy who supported Leon and his family so beautifully.
