Surrounded by his family at the age of 89 at the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital, Babby, son of the late Armenag and Elizabeth Tourian, passed away very peacefully. He leaves behind the love of his life and bride of 57 years, Shaké Orakian. He is survived by his four children; Sylva (Norair Berberian), Ani (Mel Abercrombie), Alida (Dalton Campbell), and Léon ‘’Levon Jr.’’ (Martin Allaire). He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren (his pride and joy) Armen Berberian, Devon and Alexander Abercrombie, Caitlin and Pierce Campbell. His four-legged friend Yoda will miss his cheerful companionship. Also mourning their loss are his cherished niece, Christine Nazarian (Denis), and many family and friends. Léon was born in Egypt, studied at Saint Joseph University in Beirut, Ecole Supérieur, Paris and Ponts et Chausse, Paris. He was an accomplished engineer and long-time Trustee at Montreal’s Sourp Hagop Armenian Apostolic Church. Dedicated father of four, he transmitted the value of life-long education, hard work, faith, kindness and love to all of his children and grandchildren. Léon had a passion for learning. He was happiest when he could ask questions and learn about whatever new situation presented itself to him. He was also an avid gardener, voracious reader and lover of classical music, opera and travel adventures. Special thanks to the Arnprior hospital, staff and Dr. Cathy Greenough for taking care of Léon for years with compassion. Special thanks to Archpriest Komitas Mirzakhanyan of Ottawa’s Saint Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, for tending to Léon’s spiritual needs. The wake (4-6pm) and funeral ceremony (6-7pm) will be held this Sunday (MARCH 26) at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home and Chapel 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, ON K1V 1A6 | 613-737-7900.
