Lucille (Lou) Lalonde

Born March 9, 1930 in Kapuskasing ON. Passed away peacefully in Ottawa on June 26, 2026 after a full and vibrant life. Beloved wife, for 53 years, of the late Dr. Denzil (Den) Lalonde. Survived by her loving son David (Cindy Kardash-Lalonde) of Ottawa ON and cherished grandchildren, Emma Bock (Bob Grundy), Jordan and Austin (Deanna Karch). Predeceased by two dear children, her son, Robert (Susan) of Calgary AB, and daughter, Janet Bock (Gerry) of London ON, her parents Roger Leclair and Irene Lanithier as well as four brothers Robert, Joe, Ed and Maurice.

Lou was an active community and church member during her 70 years in Sault Ste. Marie. Harnessing her competitive spirit, she was a highly accomplished duplicate bridge player reaching the status of Advanced Senior Master as well as an avid golfer and curler. Upon moving to Ottawa four years ago Lou embraced this new chapter. She made new friends, continued to enjoy weekly mass and shared in numerous family gatherings. Lou remained a passionate Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors fan, through thick and thin. Her sarcastic sense of humour and feistiness endured until the end.

Many thanks for the care and compassion shown by the dedicated staff of Waterford Retirement Residence (Ottawa) and Chartwell Collegiate Heights (Sault) during her later years. Our heartfelt appreciation for the companionship and enhanced care so generously given by those individuals in her final weeks. The family is also grateful for the excellent cancer care received here in Ottawa and the Sault.

Relatives and friends will gather on Friday, July 3, 2026, from 2-3 p.m. at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa. A Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Sault Ste. Marie at a later date. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a memorial contribution to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB), Sault Area Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
