October 22, 1913 - November 11, 2011
Muffie passed away peacefully at the Hospice of May Court November 11, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Raffaele di Paolo and Maria Guiseppa Di Sarra. She was the dear sister of the late Inez Lanno, Yolanda Sabino, Nellie, Humbert, Ralph and Florida Morey.
Muffie was the beloved wife of the late Ronald Angus James McKinnon. She was the dearly loved mother of Ian (Marian Dobson), Colin (Nicole Lemieux), Gina (Wayne McAlear) and Rory.
Mom was the dear friend, mentor and proud grandmother of Kelly (Marc), Greg (Jaimie), Casey (Rudy), Angus (Ashley), Caroline (Paul), Veronique, Stuart and Laura.
Mom was thrilled to become great-grandmother to Julien, Charlotte, Ewan and Alexander.
Muffie enjoyed playing golf as a 9-holer at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club where she and Ron had many good friends and wonderful times. She was a consummate bridge player, a whiz at geography and grammar, a passionate reader, an avid birder, a terrific party hostess, a very knowledgeable gardener and a very proud Italian Canadian who was a teacher before she married.
Muffie had a great sense of humour and loved to share her words of wisdom with her family and friends. Her calm demeanour and iron will sustained her during these last eight years of declining health. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family.
The family, especially Gina and Wayne, wish to thank the CCAC nurses who visited her weekly, especially Elayne Bonnell and Bayshore Home Care worker Catherine Makinde who became Mom’s dearly loved friend and caregiver.
The family would also like to thank the staff at the General Hospital for their great care and the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Hospice at May Court for their kindness and concern.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road on Saturday, November 19, 2011. There will be a one hour visitation from 11-12, and a Memorial Service from 12-1 p.m. followed by a reception at the funeral home.
For those who wish, donations can be made in Muffie’s memory to The Hospice at May Court, 114 Cameron Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario K1S 0X1
