It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved husband and father Paul Kralik, July 20, 2021 at the age of 72 after a long battle with prostate cancer. Just like he dealt with all things in life, Paul managed his illness with strength and grace.
Paul is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jane; his daughters Jennifer (Nicholas Pinto) and Amy Lynne; brothers Peter (Carrol), Stephen; sisters Anna, Theresa (Barry Stolovitsky) and Marie (Stephen Petruska); brother-in-law James DiGioia; nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Paul spent his career at Bell Canada for 29.75 years (he often joked he never got the gold watch) before taking early retirement in Fall 2004. When Jane retired four years later, they embraced the snowbird lifestyle. They traveled with their fifth wheel trailer which they affectionately dubbed the “Kralik-mobile” to many destinations, including spending winters in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Summers were spent in Maberly at McGowan Lake Campground.
Cruising was also Paul’s favourite way to travel. He and Jane joined friends and family on many wonderful cruises in the Caribbean and Europe. His favourite cruise was around the British Isles where he visited a scotch distillery in Glasgow and the Guinness factory in Dublin.
One of Paul’s greatest accomplishments was being a father. His children, Jennifer and Amy, called their dad a superhero, and even as adults, still see him that way. He was always there for them through their ups and downs and taught them to enjoy every moment life has to offer. To them, he was always “Mr. Fix-it.”
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre for their care and kindness throughout Paul’s cancer journey, especially Dr. Edward Fitzgibbon and Dr. Priscilla Bright for her care in his final days.
Friends and family are welcome to attend a visitation on Friday, July 23, 2021 from 7-9 pm at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road. Attendance at the funeral service will be private, however, it may be viewed via webcast on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 11 am at https://funeraweb.tv/diffusions/9c93c3c6-8fa4-47d5-8491-0cac93017097 (link below)
