Prosper Calixte

June 17, 1939 – June 17, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Prosper Calixte, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 — his 86th birthday.

Born in L’Arcahaie, Haiti, Prosper later made Ottawa his home, where he worked for many decades as a devoted aide-dietician at the Ottawa General Hospital. His quiet strength, discipline, and kindness left a lasting impression on colleagues, patients, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Prosper was a man of strong Catholic faith with a deep devotion to the Virgin Mary. He lived his faith through acts of service, notably volunteering at Partage Vanier and at the Saint-Louis Residence, where he cared for the elderly with compassion and humility.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Marie-Michelle Calixte (née Joseph), who passed away on May 12, 2019. He was also predeceased, many years earlier, by his older sister, Georgette Calixte, who passed away on March 26, 2013. He was the cherished son of Ernest Calixte and Rosélia Calixte (née Nicolas-Léger).

He is lovingly remembered by his four children and their partners:

Montini-Marie Calixte (Onome),

Marie-Prosper Calixte (Leonard),

Martin-Marie Calixte (Nagad), and

Dominique-Marie Calixte (Rosanne).

He was a proud grandfather to:

Devon Alexander Calixte, Levi Dominique Calixte, Kamau Calixte, Aya Calixte, Anthony Khalil McKenzie, Brianna Martha McKenzie, Markus Darnell McKenzie, Nakaiyah Marie Calixte, Kaliyah Ma’at Calixte, Seven Osyah Omari Calixte, Kel Samura, Delano Ernest Calixte, Jenessa Rosélia Calixte, and Harold Calixte.

He is also mourned by his younger brothers: Michel Calixte, Joseph-Édouard Calixte, and Pierre René Calixte, along with many extended family members and friends who loved and respected him deeply.

Prosper Calixte will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his exemplary work ethic, and his profound faith. His legacy lives on in each of us — in our names, our values, and the love he so generously gave.

Prosper Calixte

C’est avec une grande tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de notre père bien-aimé, Prosper Calixte, survenu paisiblement le mardi 17 juin 2025, jour de son 86e anniversaire.

Né à L’Arcahaie, en Haïti, il s’est installé à Ottawa où il a œuvré durant plusieurs décennies comme aide-diététicien à l’Hôpital général d’Ottawa. Sa force tranquille, sa rigueur et sa gentillesse ont marqué tous ceux qui l’ont côtoyé, collègues comme patients.

Homme de foi catholique profonde, il vouait une grande dévotion à la Vierge Marie. Il vivait sa foi à travers le service aux autres, notamment en tant que bénévole à Partage Vanier et à la Résidence Saint-Louis où il prenait soin des aînés avec humilité et compassion.

Il rejoint dans l’au-delà son épouse adorée, Marie-Michelle Calixte (née Joseph), décédée le 12 mai 2019. Il avait également perdu, plusieurs années auparavant, sa sœur aînée, Georgette Calixte, décédée le 26 mars 2013. Il était le fils de feu Ernest Calixte et de feu Rosélia Calixte (née Nicolas-Léger).

Il laisse dans le deuil ses quatre enfants et leurs partenaires :

Marie-Prosper Calixte (Leonard),

Martin-Marie Calixte (Nagad), et

Dominique-Marie Calixte (Rosanne).

Il était un grand-père fier de ses petits-enfants :

Il laisse également dans le deuil ses frères cadets : Michel Calixte, Joseph-Édouard Calixte et Pierre René Calixte, ainsi que de nombreux parents et amis qui l’aimaient profondément.

Prosper Calixte restera à jamais dans nos cœurs pour son amour inconditionnel, son exemple de droiture et sa foi inspirante. Son héritage vivra en chacun de nous — dans nos noms, nos valeurs et tout l’amour qu’il a semé autour de lui.
