I met Ray in l962 when I lived in Ottawa, he was present at my daughter Jane's baptism and was the guest of honour, he took many, many pictures of baby Jane together with myself and her father...he was a friend since l962, a wonderful, kind, gentle person with a very touching, unforgettable laugh and a great sense of humour...he participated in many family get-to-gethers over the years...he will be missed by all the family....rest in peace Ray......Carol Sergas

Greetings...!  So nice to see all of you here  in the House of the Lord  today to celebrate Ray's life.

Another Letter to you Ray/Eulogy, 

Dearest friend Ray, sometimes I called you Ray, sometimes I called you Rayburn, either way was fine with you.  In this letter to you dear friend,  I want you to know that Henry, Noreen & I are here amongst your many friends to celebrate your life.

You & I had some good times serving others at Asher Place for many years Ray.  At  one point we needed to drift apart for God had different plans for me the past year & a half or so with family so, my special friend, I've been missing you a long time.  Of course you've understood because family is what God ordered for you as well & so we continued our close friendship of spirits.   

It gives me great honor & pleasure to be here amongst your many friends Ray.  The  old clichÃ©, â€œif you make one good friend in a lifetime, you've done  wellâ€!  Well buddy I'm counting at least 10 really good close friends  for you today amongst your many acquaintances.   

Thank you dear Rayburn, thank you for being my friend, thank you for being an extension of my life, know that you were always & will continue to be remembered in my heart & soul  as I too complete my journey where we meet again in the glory of Our Heavenly Father in the name of His Son Jesus.

Thank You Lord for lending us your servant, Ray who made my life and Asher a better Place through  joyful works & contributions.  Rayburn had the greatest smile & attitude & for that I loved him dearly.

Dearest Ray, we been friends since you moved to Asher Place and I miss you now.  I think about when we would drive to the bus station when you went to see Sheila & Silvano once or twice a year.  I'm happy I saw you at the hospital.  I will always remember you.  love, friend Henry Gesiak

Somehow I knew who he was instantly, probably because of the kindness you spoke of him. I met Ray about 26 years ago when he was in Toronto visiting his aunt. My partner Silvano Sergas had know Ray when he lived in Ottawa and was friends with Ray for many year, Silvano talked about Ray a lot so I  was very nervous about meeting Ray for the first time but we clicked right off and Ray has been a friend to me ever since. Here are some of my memories of Ray.
Ray loved to come to Toronto to walk and shop along the Danforth and at Honest Eds and go to the Canadian National Exhibition with us. Ray usually left Toronto with new electronic equipement. Ray loved his music and he had to have the best sound systems that he could possibly  find. Ray had blue ray equipment when it first came out, because he wanted to see his movies and his music to be in the best quality that he could. He loved to scare people sometime with the vivid sounds that he could get from his movies. He had a TV in every area of his 1 bedroom appartment that he could. His big one in the frontroom, one on his table, one in the kitchen and 1 in the bedroom and a portable one he could take outside.  Ray loved decorating his home for Christmas, he was always buying new manger figures, they had to be the best, he'd hang his decoration all over his curtains and his lamps too. Ray loved putting artificial flowers everywhere in his appartment. Ray had the ability to decore and make everything look great. He placed crucifixs above every picture he had hanging in his bedroom. He was a very devoted son and brother. He was always visiting his mother and his sister Patsy when they lived in the nursing home at least twice a week and made sure both of them had everyting that they needed and he shopped for them too. Ray was always thinking of his friends, whenever  he shopped he would pick up something that he knew his friends would like to have and send or bring it to them on their brithdays or for Christmas. Ray loved to pay eucher and crib. He had a eucher foursome at his appartment weekly until his other friends either passed away or moved into homes. Ray had such a great laugh, you could not help but laugh with him whenever he laughed. Ray loved to walk and he really missed walking when his breathing got bad.Ray loved his lottery tickets too, he always was a big ticket buyer but he would not check them himself, he always wanted a clerk to check them for him. When Rays breathing got bad, Ray was too nervous to sleep in his bed, he slept in his reclining chair because he was afraid to lay down and stop breathing. Silvano and I loved Ray and came to Ottawa for a week most years and Ray would have a "fix it" list ready for Silvano when we arrived and he would always have a roast beef dinner waiting for us along with cabbage, turnip and potatos. Ray was a giving person and always put aside items ready to give to his friends who needed them. Ray will be greatly missed! I am so glad that Silvano and I had a chance to see him in the Ottawa hospital in May before we went on a vacation. We truly thought that we would be visiting Ray again in July. Good bye Ray! I'm sure your family has welcomed you into their fold.

I was 18 years old, just out of high school - Ray was my  very first boss.  He wouldn't drink boiled tea and always threatened to leave me his record collection: I didn't understand opera and Ray didn't understand the Beatles. Anyone who knew him will always remember his infectious laugh.  Rest in Peace,
