Rudolphe Desaulniers

Rudolphe (Rudy) Desaulniers passed away in Ottawa on October 12th, 2015 at the age of 89 years. Rudy was born and raised in Timmins where he completed his high school and subsequently got employment with Kimberly Clark in Longlac in 1950 where he remained until his death. He married his wife Bernadette (nee Poulin) in 1956 who had relocated from Quebec to Longlac in 1948. He sired eight children, Johanne (Jean Veilleux) of Ottawa, Ron of Longlac, Pierre (Marianne) of Milton Ontario, Jeannot (Crystal) of Brule Alberta, Louise (Andrew MacKenzie) of Keswick Ontario, Claude (Sherry) of Hinton Alberta, Rene (Christine) of Ottawa, and Simon of Longlac. He was a proud grandfather of Joel Veilleux (Andrea) of Hamilton and Killishandra of Ottawa, Corey Brochu (Kayla) of Thunder Bay, Chelsea Desaulniers of Saskachewan, Ben Desaulniers of Halifax and Cleo and Sam of Hinton, Alex Mackenzie (Rikki) of Saskatoon and Michael of Toronto, Jada and Jacob Desaulniers of Hinton, Mathieu, Alicia, Paul and Eric Desaulniers all of Ottawa. He was predeceased by his mother, Melina Brule, father Urbain, sister Jeanne.Since 1950 he was involved in sports from playing, to coaching and organizing. As such, he was instrumental in founding the Longlac Minor Hockey and Softball Association along with Angus MacPherson and Jack Wilson and remained involved for more than a quarter century where the committee spearheaded and acquired the funds for the Longlac Arena in 1974/75. He was also involved with the Longlac Legion Branch #113 (although not a veteran) where he and Ken Burgess provided weekly movie showings in the early days and later managed the Branch for many years and organized weekly bingos. He was also active with the school board for many years and promoted French language education. Although our father was not a skier, when not involved with hockey, he spent many weekends at the ski hill with his spouse and his children, all avid skiers.

He was a devout father and emphasized team work in all aspects of life. He was a social person and liked to laugh. He gave a lot to the community and will be missed by all who knew him.

Our father was very poetic in that he would use expressions such as “ In God we Trust, the rest of you pay cash” and use exclamations such as “ Holy bald headed McKinaw” and “So long John, your steak is gone and your packsack is in the hall”. Yes so long Dad, we will dearly miss you.

The family will hold a private memorial in Ottawa on Friday, October 16th at Windsor Park Manor with plans for a public memorial in Longlac at a future date. Il a engendré huit enfants, Johanne (Jean Veilleux) d'Ottawa, Ron de Longlac, Pierre (Marianne) de Milton en Ontario, Jeannot (Crystal) de Brule Alberta, Louise (Andrew MacKenzie) de Keswick en Ontario, Claude (Sherry) de Hinton en Alberta, René (Christine) d'Ottawa et Simon de Longlac. Il était un grand-père fier de Joel Veilleux (Andrea) de Hamilton et Killishandra d'Ottawa, Corey Brochu (Kayla) de Thunder Bay, Chelsea Desaulniers de Saskachewan, Ben Desaulniers de Halifax et Cleo et Sam de Hinton, Alex Mackenzie (Rikki) de Saskatoon et Michael de Toronto, Jada et Jacob Desaulniers de Hinton, Mathieu, Alicia, Paul et Eric Desaulniers tout d'Ottawa. Il fut prédécédé par sa mère, Mélina Brûlé, son père Urbain et sa sœur Jeanne.

Depuis 1950, il a été impliqué dans les sports de jouer, à l’entraînement et de l'organisation. En tant que tel, il a contribué à la fondation de l'Association de hockey mineur de Longlac et softball avec Angus MacPherson et Jack Wilson et est resté impliqué depuis plus d'un quart de siècle où le comité a mené et a acquis les fonds pour l’aréna de Longlac en 1974/75. Il a également été impliqué avec la Légion de Longlac # 113 (même s’il n’était pas un vétéran) où lui et Ken Burgess avait des films hebdomadaires, puis a ensuite géré la branche depuis de nombreuses années et a organisé les bingos hebdomadaires. Il a également été actif avec la commission scolaire depuis de nombreuses années et a encouragé l'éducation de langue française. Bien que notre père ne fût pas un skieur, lorsqu’il n’était pas impliqué dans le hockey, il passait de nombreuse fin de semaines à la station de ski avec sa conjointe et ses enfants, toutes des fanatiques du ski.

Il était un père dévoué et le travail d'équipe était très important pour lui dans tous les aspects de la vie. Il était une personne sociale et aimait rire. Il a beaucoup donné à la communauté et sera regretté par tous ceux qui le connaissaient.

La famille tiendra une cérémonie privée à Ottawa le vendredi 16 Octobre au Manoir Windsor Park avec des plans pour une cérémonie publique à Longlac à une date ultérieure.
