Suddenly, in hospital in Smiths Falls, Ontario, Saturday, March 25, 2023, at age 53. Spence suffered a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in lungs). Accompanied by his partner Kim, Spence was rushed by ambulance to hospital where despite best efforts by hospital staff, his life could not be saved. Kim remained with him throughout.
Spence is survived by his partner Kim Burrows (nee Jones) and her four sons Nicholas, Ryan, Connor, and Brett Burrows. As well, he is survived by his parents, Kevin and Teresa (Kealey) McCarthy, his brothers Frayne (Kevin Saylor) and Ian (Jackie Lancaster), and sister Terry Lee (Pierre Bourguignon). He will be missed by his nephews William and Simon McCarthy Bourguignon and his nieces Georgia and Morgan McCarthy.
A viewing and prayers will be held at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home & Chapel, 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, Friday March 31, 2023, from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Parish Fallowfield, 15 Steeple Hill Crescent, Nepean, Saturday, April 1, at 11:00 AM.
