Spencer Van Cookson

Spencer passed away peacefully just before his 18th birthday in the early hours of May 9th, 2026, at Roger Neilson Children's Hospice surrounded by love.

He was the sweetest and most easy-going guy. He had special needs but never once complained.

He loved books, music, car rides, being outdoors and especially loved his mother and brother Hunter and John Jardine.

He was the son of Nhan Lam and brother of Hunter Cookson. He will be missed dearly by his mother and brother, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles, friends, teachers and staff at Clifford Bowey Public School and all the nurses that took care of him and all those who knew him.

We would like to thank all the nurses, staff and doctors that took care of Spencer at Cheo 4 East where he spent the last 4 and a half months of his life. We would also like to thank the staff, nurses and doctors at Roger Neilson Children's Hospice that have taken such good care of Spencer over the last 3 years.

He will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew him. He was a very special boy and made a lasting impact on those who had the pleasure of meeting him.

A Celebration of Spencer's life was held at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, Ontario, K1V 1A6, on Sunday, May 24, 2026 from 1-4 PM.
