

He is predeceased by his father and mother, Arnold and Winnifred Mahoney and brother John. He attended Highbury public school in New Minas, Nova Scotia until Grade 9 and then attended Kings County Academy for his junior matriculation graduating in 1956. He joined the Bank of Nova Scotia for two years and in 1958 he joined the Air Force. One of his postings was to Summerside, PEI where he met the love of his life on a blind date at an Airmen’s Club in 1963. He married later that year and the next year he was posted to Air Force Headquarters in Ottawa where he remained for 15 years before joining the Public Service (Finance – Supply and Services). In 1996 he accepted a generous retirement package at the age of 57. The next 25 years were the happiest of his life. He and his wife travelled extensively, enjoyed over 20 cruises and 16 winters in Florida. He was a kind, generous soul and always happy to help out someone less fortunate. He will be missed by his many charities.
He will also be missed by his lovely wife, Lillian, his sons William (Bill), and Richard, his daughters-in-law Kimberly and Jennifer as well as his grandchildren Nathan and Matthew. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golf, puzzles and watching his beloved Blue Jays.
A visitation will be held at the McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home and Chapel on Friday July 11th from 10am until the service in the chapel at 11:30am. A reception to following.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Local Food Bank, the Ottawa Mission or the Shepherds of Good Hope or charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
