It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Winona Norton (Babcock) just shy of her 100th birthday. She was a beloved mother to John (Sue) and Paul, grandmother to Jennifer (Michael), great-grandmother to Evan and Arianna and Auntie to Linda, who passed away peacefully last week after a long and courageous battle with dementia.
She was devoted to her family. Her love was steady, selfless, and unwavering. She was a woman who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved tending to her garden and loved her outings to Carlingwood Mall and Winners, where she delighted in finding little treasures.
Born and raised in Amherst, NS, she carried her love for her hometown throughout her life. Amherst always held a special place in her heart, shaping the warmth, strength, and kindness she shared so generously with others. No matter where life took her, Amherst was always home in her heart, and she carried its warmth and spirit with her in everything she did.
Her greatest joy was her granddaughter, who meant the world to her. The bond they shared was something truly special, filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments that will be remembered forever.
She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her quiet strength, and the deep love she gave so freely. Though her memory faded in her later years, the love she planted in all of us never will.
She will be missed more than words can say and loved always.
At her request, there will be no formal service. In her honour, donations can be made to the Dementia Society of Canada.
