Yves was my best friend. We met at St. Matthew's Junior High when he was 12 and I was 13. We bonded over many things including soccer, football, hockey and music. We spent every recess and lunch hour playing soccer or football or in the stairwell listening to music on his ghetto blaster. We liked Heart, OMD, Phil Collins, Michael Jackson and Depeche Mode. Many times we watched Monty Python movies and drank Tequila in his aunts' basement. 

Yves loved to dance. He liked to have fun and was the life of the party. When we got a little older and had part time jobs, we spent many weekends in Hull. We'd dress up in our Miami Vice jackets, dress pants and loafers and head over to Helium, Le Rousseau or Shalimar's, dancing until 2 a.m. We'd go back to my parent's house to crash and nurse our hangovers the next day. My parents loved him. My dad said that he never worried about me when I was with Yves. 

I admired him because he was good at everything, from school to sports to dancing to baking and cooking. 

The most fun we ever had was on our trip to O'ahu in 1996. When he graduated from Algonquin College, his aunts paid for his trip to Hawaii. We had the best two weeks. Yves loved the island, the culture & the people. On one excursion, we walked through the jungle and came upon an 1100 ft waterfall called Sacred Falls. We climbed part way up the side of the waterfall and dove into the pristine pool below. On another excursion to a cultural centre, one of the natives asked Yves which island he was from. He beamed. He said in Hawaii, he felt like he was home.

I was so happy for Yves when he met the love of his life, Stacey. All the pieces fell into place and they built a beautiful family together. His love for Lyndsey and Katie was endless and you could see it in his eyes and in his smile when he spoke of them. He was such a proud papa.

Yves was a great friend who will be loved and missed forever. 

Rest easy, buddy.

My Bro - My HERO !

Yves was there with me in the trenches 
of the horrors of my youth . wherever and whenever my life was in danger whether In the home or bullies on the playground ! He was the one who taught me marbles played balloon lightsabers until they had popped to often, he and Rob ruined my train set by putting chalk on it he was there when I was taken to the police station which began our road to freedom from the war fought at home. 
Like most people they don't come out of those situations the same . They lose pieces of themselves but Yves never lost his Heart. 
He was lucky enough to find someone to share that heart and to make it bloom. His Children have become people Yves was so proud of !  
I remember Yves trying desperately to teach me math and I remember playing Atari  and going to Mama Mias Pizzaria 
Yves was so full of love even as a little child he tried so much to get me that elusive cupcake that never made it home . You see he may have loved me but he also loved Cupcakes lol. There were so many great childhood memories of him taking care of me - two latch - key kids watching out for one another on the battlefield or off.  YVvvvvvves  wheres my soup I would call out to him from the door of the classroom that he was in .  I remember meeting some of his classmates many years later and theyd remind me of that time. I always somehow felt proud that people knew he was my brother. 
whenever I would be looking for him in the winter I would find him in snowbanks or in the forest with dried food packs with the othet cadets  .  In the summer though I would mercilessly bug him while he was wearing his big GGFG Fur Hat  until he would use his well chosen explitives lol . I remember being so excited about my new skateboard but ignoring the fact that Yves had been playing soccer all weekend but....I had to let him know ...grrrrr with a swat And I ran.  Yves my Brother you are a STAR in Face of MY SKY ! I will always love you and all that is yours .

Rose and René, I am sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved son Yves. What a tragedy to lose someone so young. My heart goes out to you. May your memories of him be a blessing always.
